C l e a n i n g N e ws W e d n e s d a y, N o ve m b e r 5 , 2 0 1 4 6 CHICOPEE LAUNCHES NEW SANITIZER-COMPATIBLE FOODSERVICE TOWELS Chicopee recently unveiled CHIX ® SC Sanitizer Compatible towels, the latest innovation in the CHIX family of food- service cleaning wipes. CHIX SC towels are a significant advance in the fight against foodborne illnesses and cross-contamination, help- ing stem the spread of salmonella, E. coli, listeria and other pathogens. While laundered cotton towels, paper towels and other non-woven wipes have been shown to deplete sanitizer potency, CHIX SC towels are proven to deliver sanitizer solutions at acceptable levels to foodservice surfaces. Sanitizer compatibility is a vital ben- efit provided by CHIX SC, and it applies equally to sanitizing systems utilizing quaternary ammonia, chlorine or hydro- gen peroxide. In addition, CHIX SC tow- els are engineered to dislodge and collect particles, to rinse clean and to provide sufficient durability to perform for a full eight-hour shift and beyond. CHIX SC sanitizer compatible food- service towels are compatible with color- coded zone cleaning protocols, with tow- els available in white, blue, yellow and red. Visitors to www.CHIXSC.com are able to view a demonstration of the sani- tizer depletion/compatibility phenome- non, and to request a free test kit, enabling them to make a direct compari- son between the performance of their current towel and CHIX SC. FOODHANDLER INC OFFERS ONESAFE SINGLE-GLOVE DISPENSING SYSTEM FoodHandler Inc. is a leading developer and supplier of high-quality disposable gloves, bags and apparel. Its oneSAFE single-glove dispensing system has the distinction of being the first system of its kind for the food industry. The system enables users to pull out a single glove by the cuff and don it without touching the food-handling surface. This simple dif- ference reduces the risk of cross contam- ination by 96 percent. "Since 89 percent of foodborne ill- ness is caused by improper hand hygiene, a system like oneSAFE will help the food industry protect its customers and employ- ees while improving efficiencies and brand image," said Bunzl North America Marketing Manager Cory Sexson. "With products such as oneSAFE, FoodHandler continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation by providing new technolo- gies and solutions that help our customers operate more efficiently." The oneSAFE system is available with powder-free gloves in either vinyl or nitrile. While improving food safety, oneSAFE will also help the food industry reduce waste and increase efficiency. The one-at-a-time dispensing system decreas- es waste versus traditional dispensers that do not control the number of gloves pulled or how they are touched. The gloves are 50 percent faster to put on, improving speed of service. To encour- age use, businesses may install the sys- tem's acrylic dispenser holders wherever they are visible and convenient for staff. Additionally, the compact packaging system reduces environmental impact by lowering transportation and logistics costs while reducing cardboard waste by as much as 25 percent and required stor- age space as much as 30 percent. AMERICAN DRYER INTRODUCES INDUSTRY-FIRST ADA WALL GUARD FOR HAND DRYERS wall, thus eliminating the need to cut holes into restroom walls. This is espe- cially valuable when walls are cinder block, masonry or other difficult-to-mod- ify surfaces. The standalone Wall Guard is designed to sit below the dryer and is easily installed using just the four screws provided. It achieves ADA compliance and provides safety for users living with disabilities because its curved lower edge assures that the "leading edge" of the dryer-with-wall-guard unit is 26 inches or less from the finished floor, a distance that meets ADA standards to protect peo- ple using wheelchairs or walking aids. Wall Guard, which features elegant, seamless one-piece stainless steel con- struction can be paired with American Dryer's high-speed, energy-efficient eXtremeAir, its Advantage™ and its Global ® Series for ADA compliance. According to American Dryer Vice President of Sales and Technology Michael Robert, "ADA restroom compli- ance is important, and for hand dryers, it can now be achieved without the time and expense of making a hole in the restroom wall and doing a retrofit for the dryer sys- tem. What's more, the Wall Guard design, with its one-piece structure and curved bottom, helps assure clean, dry walls and even, unlike most wall guards, a dry floor beneath. Water evaporates along the sur- face of American Dryer's Wall Guard, instead of puddling on the floor as happens with the typical wall guard. Dry walls and floors are a plus for all hand dryer installa- tions, not just for ADA concerns." American Dryer Wall Guard, con- structed with strong, 19-gauge stainless steel, measures a compact 9-3/8 inches wide by 18 inches high by 3-1/2 inches deep to pair with American's physically compact line of dryers. "Architects and specifiers have long told us that they prefer a smaller, less obtrusive dryer to the larger models on the market," said Robert. "Fortunately, all the engineering needed to achieve best-in-class performance fits nicely into that smaller profile, for both American Dryer's hand dryers and now its coordi- nating new Wall Guard." that cleanliness is maintained, that food comes from approved sources, foods are maintained at correct temperatures and that opportunities for cross contamina- tion are limited. It's about being proac- tive and reducing the risk of food borne illness. CN: How is Micro Essential Laboratory part of the food safety industry? RL: Many food service establishments don't think about the required testing of the sanitizing agents used in food service. Regardless of the sanitizer that you use, health codes require frequent testing of sanitizing agents with the proper test kit. Testing the sanitizer ensures that the solution is strong enough to kill harmful microbes, but not so strong as to be wasteful or cause harm. Micro Essential provides these test kits to sanitizer dis- tributors and manufacturers. Since it is a health code violation if you don't have the right kit on hand, distributors should watch out for their customers by making sure they are protected. CN: Aren't they concerned with cus- tomer safety, too? RL: Restaurants and food manufacturers are concerned with food safety and for sev- eral reasons. Chief among them is that it is good business. Restaurants must pass health inspection and, since so many states Micro Essential ( Cont'd. from p. 1) require that reports be posted publicly, they need to avoid poor results. Of course, they also want to ensure customers have confi- dence in the establishment's safety record because that helps builds loyalty. CN: Food safety has become a big busi- ness. Why? RL: In addition to wanting repeat customs – customers who become ill don't return and may tell their friends about their poor experience – people in the business are concerned about food recalls and outbreaks of food borne illness. They can be public relations nightmares. A little diligence goes a long way in protecting brands. Public dis- plays of health inspection grades have increased public awareness, too. CN: What do you hope to accomplish at ISSA? RL: We are here to educate ISSA mem- bers on the importance of sanitizer test- ing and give them the tools to help their customers. Many companies at ISSA have customers in food service that should be aware that test kits are required. All of them need to use and test sanitizers, but many aren't. If Jan/San distributors aren't selling test kits to their customers, they should be. Visit Micro Essential Laboratory at booth #354. Creative thinking yielded valuable results when American Dryer's engineer- ing team took on the challenge of creat- ing a better way to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards to assure that restroom users living with disabilities can easily access American Dryer hand dryers. American Dryer's new patent-pend- ing Wall Guard is ADA-compliant, achieving the four-inch-or-less unit pro- trusion guidelines without the need to recess the accompanying dryer into the
