CONNECTED CAR ENHANCES DRIVER SAFETY Intelligent Mechatronic Systems (IMS) is unveiling the IMS Connected Car Experience, demonstrating real-time driver coaching, driver health monitoring integrated with wearable devices and dis- traction-free technology that supports smarter driver decisions. World-renowned experts in connect- ed car technology with a portfolio of 145 patents, IMS is showcasing a unique, real-time experience with this drivable vehicle powered by the DriveSync ® plat- form. Insight gained from wearable tech- nology is transformed into anticipated driver behaviors. For example, sleep pat- terns, glucose monitoring levels and abnormal heart rate detection are used to signal driver drowsiness and potential health risks. Before each journey, DriveSync analyzes weather and traffic information to predict expected road con- ditions. While driving, the DriveSync connected car platform also gives drivers personalized audible coaching when unsafe behaviors are observed; including dangerous speeding, harsh cornering and tailgating. Central to the DriveSync connected car platform is a comprehensive usage- based insurance (UBI) solution. This innovative offering benefits customers globally, with: automotive incident detection, first notice of loss, claims management, green driving reports and integrated roadside assistance. To deter distracted driving, DriveSync's infotain- ment services enable safe access to: email, text notifications, music and social media integration. "Seeing is believing, and IMS' Connected Car Experience brings our vision for safer roads and smarter driving to life," commented Dr.Otman Basir, CEO and President of IMS. NISSAN CONFIRMS TELEFONIX L1 POWERPOST ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION COMPATIBILITY Telefonix, Inc., manufacturer of the PowerPost ® commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging station product line, has confirmed that the company's L1 PowerPost electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) has been tested at the Nissan Technical Center in Plymouth, Michigan. The company reports that the L1 PowerPost EVSE is fully compatible with the Nissan LEAF ® battery electric vehicle. The testing procedure at Nissan simulates various charging situations and fault conditions. Says Bill Williams of Telefonix, "The results we've received from Nissan confirm that the L1 PowerPost EV charg- ing station is not only compatible with the LEAF, but also compliant with SAE J1772 best practice recommendations." Telefonix developed the L1 PowerPost EVSE specifically for work- place charging and longer term parking situations such as airports, hotels and edu- cation facilities. LEAF and other plug-in vehicle drivers put approxi- mately five miles back into their battery for every hour they are plugged into the L1 PowerPost electric vehicle charging station. This low current charging helps reduce overall energy costs by avoiding spikes that can increase a facility's peak energy demand. The L1 PowerPost EVSE can be customized with advertising or logos as seen above at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. "Everyone has seen the countless portable wireless speakers on the market, however we noticed the absence of a sys- tem that could produce the powerful vol- ume and distinguished clarity needed to properly project the music we're all so passionate about to a large amount of peo- ple," says Samson President Jack Knight. With its premium two-way speaker design, the Escape has enough volume to entertain large parties, as well as outdoor events like barbecues, tailgates and group exercise sessions. Featuring a 6-inch sub- woofer for deep pounding bass and a 1- inch high frequency driver to transmit finer sonic details, the Escape's 20-hour rechargeable battery and Bluetooth com- patibility offer a completely wireless enter- tainment solution in a rugged portable design the weighs only 8.5 pounds. The Escape even contains a 1/4 mic input with a separate volume control for delivering presentations, lectures or, for those brave enough, sing-alongs to streaming music. A USB port for charging a smartphone and/or tablet is also included. With its convenient integrated carry handle, the Expedition Escape brings serious sound to activities like camping, boating and days at the park, beach or poolside. The Escape retails for $99.99.
