A f te rm a rke t D a i l y N e ws Tu e s d a y, N o ve m b e r 4 , 2 0 1 4 1 0 STAGE 8: THE BOLT STOPS HERE Stage 8 provides application specific locking fasteners in an unlimited range of sizes, materials, thread pitches and retainer configurations. They manufac- ture the only active mechanical locking fastener system designed to stop thread- ed joint failure and production down- time by preventing fastener loosening from starting. Essentially, Stage 8's patented GrooveLok™ fastener locking system acts like a small wrench locked onto a bolt head, with the wrench (Stage 8 lock- ing retainer) braced against a stationary object, such as a frame, casting or protru- sion. This stops dead in its tracks any counter rotation of the bolt until the lock- ing system is removed…a lot easier with thread lube. The system works the same way with nuts. It includes a grooved nut or bolt, an application specific retainer (which serves as the "wrench socket and handle") and a spring clip, all of which combine to work together. The Stage 8 system retrofits existing components, is fully reusable and has been used in items as small as eyeglass screws, to bolts as large as eight inches in diameter holding generator propellers onto a hydroelectric dam. To date, the system has no reported failures in over 17,000,000 applications. As any mechanic will confirm, shock, pressure, vibration and tempera- ture change all combine to loosen fasten- ers, which inevitably come loose at the worst possible time. Using Stage 8 fasteners leaves nothing to chance, and the use of thread lube or anti- seize ensures proper torque values and best of all, pro- vides ease of removal. The question of why a company specializing in prevention of loosening nuts and bolts would advise the use of thread lube is simple. Stage 8 uses only active mechanical locking systems. The use of thread lube has no detrimental effect on the ability to lock a nut or a bolt while reducing cor- rosion and facilitating the future removal of the part. Need a prototype? Stage 8 has cele- brated more than 25 years in business. The company has developed excellent long-term working relations with a wide variety of product and service providers, including GE Locomotive, Link-Belt Cranes, Caterpillar, NASA, Oshkosh, Ford Racing, BAE Systems and Stolle Machinery. This, in combination with its small busi- ness versatility and quick response, allows it to respond to opportunities with prototypes and engineered solutions in an extremely short time period. Using Stage 8 fasteners leaves noth- ing to chance, and the use of thread lube or anti-seize ensures proper torque val- ues, and best of all, provides ease of removal. The Bolt Stops Here! VENTURINI MOTORSPORTS: THE STRENGTH OF A FAMILY LEGACY The Venturini family have racing in their blood, from Tony Venturini, who began racing stock cars in the 1950s, extending to the whole Venturini Motorsports (VMS) team, a premier NASCAR Driver Development Program. But many more milestones happened along their track, earning the whole family a place in the Italian American Hall of Fame. This family honor was the result of victories over the past 60 years on and off the track. Bill Sr., Tony's son, started rac- ing as soon as he could. His father had one rule – while under his roof, Bill couldn't own a racecar. But right after his honeymoon, Bill built his first racecar and began a 21 year driving career. Among his accomplishments, he is a two-time ARCA Racing Series Champion and holds all- time qualifying records at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. An ideal match, Bill's wife also found her role on the race track and in the sports history books. During a time when women weren't accepted in the garage, Cathy Venturini led the first all-female pit crew – supporting Bill's 1987 ARCA Championship win. The women of the Venturini crew helped build the team's success, garnering new sponsorship opportunities and coverage in Sports Illustrated. After breaking world records and gender barriers, Bill and Cathy were ready to put driving days behind them. But as he entered retirement in 1993, his son Billy stepped up to the driver's seat. "I was at a point in my life that I'd accomplished all I'd wanted to do, and I contin- ued living my dream through my son," Bill Sr. said. Professional racing has a high price tag, and eventu- ally, the father and son could not afford to keep the team running on their own. Still, they weren't ready to give up racing. So an idea emerged to step out of the driver's seat and let others drive the cars to fund the program – Venturini Motorsports (VMS) was born. Since 2007, VMS has developed over 60 drivers, with many going on to the NASCAR circuit, including Joey Logano, Justin Allgaier and Brian Scott. Justin Boston, their newest driver to break into the NASCAR circuit, came from a background in motorsports and, before his training with VMS, had only competed in 17 stock car races. Justin made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut on August 20. While most of the Venturini family now work for VMS, Bill and Cathy's daughter, Wendy, has broken rac- ing records apart from the team. She is the first female broadcaster to co-anchor a nationwide NASCAR race from inside the booth. As for the future of VMS, Bill Sr. expects his three grandsons, currently under the age of six, to also catch the rac- ing bug. The future of this hall of fame family is certainly in good hands. CLOUD-RIDER DESIGNS GRILL INSERTS: STYLISH PROTECTION FOR YOUR RIDE Cloud-Rider Designs Ltd has been in business since 1995 and has become a leader in Canadian automotive acces- sories manufacturing. Specializing in stainless steel, it is the originator of the stainless steel grill insert. When Cloud- Rider first started, the owner was looking for something that would offer protection against rocks, bugs and debris, but would also fit the vehicle as though it came with it. There were some options available, but nothing that seemed durable enough and looked good. Thus, it tried stainless steel, and it was a hit! The Stainless Steel Grill Inserts offer a custom look for your vehicle but are very easy to install and require no removal of the existing grill. The design team measures every grill first to ensure a good fit. They attach using special made clips that attach to the existing grill and screws. All the material is made out of compatible steel to prevent any rusting issues. They are extremely durable – some of the early versions are still seen on trucks on the road today. They are easy to maintain – just wash with soap and a good scrub and they look like new. Cloud-Rider Designs has six designs available, the original called the Classic, Round which is very pop- ular with GMC owners looking for something similar to the Denali. It also has a Spectra Mesh and Breeze, both designed for high airflow, which is a good option if you are towing a trailer, to prevent overheating. They are also perfect for the Ford EcoBoost owners as they protect the opening in the bumper while allowing enough air- flow. The Diamond was a special edi- tion, but due to popular demand, it is available for most of its newer applica- tions. It also has a Winter screen that is great for cooler climates, as it helps keep the engine compartment warm. All of the stainless screens come with a three-year warranty. They are also available in black powder coat, for those that prefer the blacked out look. They are available for most of the popular trucks, SUVs and cars that are out today. They also come with a one-year warranty. A new addition to the screen line up that it is featuring at SEMA this year is its lighted bumper grill insert. It is a stain- less grill insert using its Spectra Mesh design and has a LED light bar that offers extra lighting to your vehicle and offers the same protection as its regular grill.
