Compatible with Powermat and other in-phone wireless charging tech- nologies, the feature eliminates the need for cords on board. "A recent survey from IHS revealed that 70 percent of consumers charge their mobile phone at least once per day, with 30 percent charging more than once," said Ryan Sanderson, Associate Director, Power Supply & Storage Components at IHS Technology. "This is driving demand for charging access in multiple locations throughout the day, something wireless charging can address in a more convenient way than the consumer having to carry one or more wired chargers around with them on a daily basis." "With 4G LTE capability and now wireless charging, Cadillac is embedding conveniences that have quickly become essential customer needs," said Ken Kornas, ATS Global Product Manager. Powermat enables the phone to simply sit on a rubberized pad. The battery is recharged by means of an electromagnetic field. An increasing number of smartphones have wireless charging either embedded or as an option. The wireless charger GM and Powermat created accommodates the majority of these enabled devices. "Our lifestyles have evolved in a more mobile way than ever before and with that comes an even greater need for access to power in those places where we spend the majority of our time," said Powermat CEO Ran Poliakine. "Our integration into the Cadillac ATS is only the first step in the evolution of portable power in places that include your car, your coffee house and even your favorite sporting arena." The wireless charging feature will be located inside the storage bin behind the fully motorized center instrument panel faceplate of the ATS. This location cre- ates a convenient option for drivers so they can keep their hands on the wheel. Using Bluetooth, a driver can pair his or her phone to the vehicle and enjoy many of the connectivity elements of the mobile device while it is both out of the way and charging. Cadillac CUE is the centerpiece of the ATS Coupe's in-vehicle technologies. For 2015, CUE includes new enhanced content such as a Text-to-Voice feature for smartphone users with Bluetooth pro- file (M.A.P.), which reads incoming texts through the car's speakers. Using the fea- ture requires a compatible smartphone with Bluetooth profile and applicable text messaging feature. RAND MCNALLY LAUNCHES ALL-NEW RV GPS: RVND 7730 LM Rand McNally has just launched its third- generation RV GPS device. Redesigned inside and out, the RVND™. 7730 LM provides all-new hardware, a faster processor, two new graphical user inter- face options, with improved map appear- ance. Bringing together Rand McNally's award-winning navigation and new features such as toll cost esti- mates and advanced lane guidance, the RVND device delivers leading-edge technology and tools specifically designed for RVers. "Rand McNally's RVND was the first navigation device designed specifically for RVers. With this next generation device, we've incorporated an all-new look but more importantly, new features to better help RVers get the most out of their on-the-road adventures," said Stephen Fletcher, CEO of Rand McNally. The device features a new, sleeker hardware design with a 7-inch screen — rugged and large for any RV dash- board. Inside, the RVND has faster pro- cessing speed, allowing for quicker route calculation, point of interest searches, route comparisons, and screen-to-screen transitions. New navigation options give RVers more assistance and the abili- ty to further customize routes. Estimated toll road costs are now included for more informed trip planning. More advanced lane guidance instruction, combined with an increased number of enhanced junction views, goes beyond just turns and shows the best lanes in which to drive when approaching a turn or heading toward a complicated intersection. And drivers may avoid areas permanently – such as heavily congested city areas – or temporarily — to accommodate closures of bridges or other roads. The onboard mapping has been upgraded to include improved text and road shields, and new coloration for cer- tain reference points such as shopping centers and parks. There are two new color schemes for the maps, giving RVers even more personalization options. To further customize the devices, RVers can choose between two new interface options – "Ice" (with a white background) and "Carbon" (with a steel grey background). Users also may choose the familiar "Classic" design interface, from prior generations of the device. The new, proprietary, color-satu- rated icons in the design were created by Rand McNally to make features easy to recognize with just a glance.
