Since opening California for fran- chise development in 2013, Dunkin' Donuts has executed store development agreements for nearly 200 new restau- rants total to date. The company believes it can eventually have as many as 1,000 restaurants throughout the state. The company has already opened three non- traditional Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in California, including a recent Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins combination location inside the Embassy Suites San Diego Bay Downtown Hotel. "We are pleased with the solid start to our California development plans, and the upcoming openings of our first new traditional Dunkin' Donuts restaurants represents develop- ment that is ahead of schedule due to the strong interest of prospective fran- chisees and consumers across the state," said Paul Twohig, President, Dunkin' Donuts U.S. and Canada, and Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins Europe and Latin America. "We are especially happy to be partnering with such experienced and passionate fran- chise groups as we begin opening tra- ditional Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in California. We look forward to keeping Californians running on our brand's high-quality coffee, sandwiches and baked goods." The company is also announcing the signing of multi-unit store development agreements with four new franchise groups to develop 54 new restaurants throughout Southern California in the coming years, which include: New franchise group Burton Restaurants, LLC plans to develop 14 restaurants in San Diego over the coming years. Then came the addition of the fresh baked honey butter biscuits that attracted even the most diet conscious customers. "They figure that chicken and biscuits are not something to eat every day, but everyone splurges every once in a while, and Krispy Krunchy was the best way to fall off the wagon!" laughed Onebane. But the most far-reaching turning point in the evolution of the brand, the menu and likewise, the increase in sales and profits, was the addition of a breakfast program. "We recognized the phenomenal growth of the breakfast day part in the industry. Our new brand – Sunrise Breakfast – was added to our offering," said Shapiro, Krispy Krunchy's E.V.P. The menu includes self-serve breakfast sand- Krispy Krunchy Foods ( Cont'd. from p. 4) wiches, fresh baked blueberry biscuits, kolaches, empanadas, and of course, its ever popular honey butter biscuits. The next phase in the development of the menu was to expand its lunch and dinner menu by adding the popular Buffalo Wings, served with their own unique sauces. Most recently, based on its experiences in Cajun country where seafood is a mainstay, Krispy Krunchy has introduced another new brand – Kajun Katch – which Onebane boasts "is not only delicious," but "operator-friend- ly," meaning exceptionally easy to pre- pare. Onebane reports that "sales of shrimp and fish are off to a great start and we expect seafood to be a dominant part of our menu for years to come." Convenience store customers especially rely on the acces- sibility of public restrooms and they do not want to purchase food or beverages from a store that appears untidy. Installing the XLERATOReco hand dryer significantly reduces labor, maintenance and waste while creating a cleaner – more convenient – rest- room environment for customers.
