HORIZON LED LIGHTS REVOLUTIONIZE AIRCRAFT WARNING LIGHTS Ever since nighttime aviation became practical in the early 1930s, obstruction lighting has been a necessary safety fea- ture to prevent midair collisions with tall structures. Incandescent lights were the technology of the day for the last 80 years, but there is a new technology lighting the night: light-emitting diode (LED). LED technology offers a new level of safety and reliability for obstruction lighting and a major advantage in energy savings. The HORIZON™ line of LED obstruction lighting from Hughey & Phillips (H&P) lasts 15 times longer and uses 90 percent less power than 1,200W standard incandescent lamps within the Medium Intensity Red Beacon, a light the FAA classifies as Type L-864. The energy efficiency of LED lights offers several advantages. They reduce maintenance costs and increase safety while greatly minimizing the number of times technicians must climb towers to change lamps. LEDs pay for themselves in as little as two years due to their ener- gy efficiency, lower maintenance costs and greater reliability. HORIZON LEDs, which are solid-state devices, resist shock and vibration and stand up to extremes better than incandescent lights, which rely on a fragile filament in the lamp. HORIZON LED modules facilitate efficient retrofitting from existing incan- descent lights by using exist- ing mounting and cabling. The feature decreases the time and expense of installa- tion significantly. Installing H&P LED flash heads on new tower builds is less expensive as well because of their light unit weight of 17 pounds, allowing them to be easily hoisted and installed. The product series from H&P is offered in two classifications. First, the FAA type L-810 LED low-intensity obstruction light provides a steady-burn lamp available in single and double con- figurations. The second provides an LED strobe, defined as either an FAA type L- 864 (red), L-865 (white), or L-864/865 (red and white) fixture. All of these LEDs meet FAA specs and those for the ICAO. As a single compact unit, the dual medium-intensity system provides day- time white and nighttime red lights while operating on 95 to 277 VAC and con- suming 70W by day and 32W by night. For comparison, incandes- cent beacons consume up to 1,400W in either mode. The new microprocessor-controlled LED strobe system boasts a self-con- tained power supply that simpli- fies wiring but also accepts external sig- nals if necessary. Its compact design, built-in testing, GPS sync (optional), automatic day/night sensor and wiring compatibility make the product easy to use and install. Advanced optics reduce ground scatter, creating a community- friendly light. These patented designs include optics, power supply and reflec- tor, to name a few. H&P HORIZON LED lights are designed, built and sourced in the United States, using U.S. suppliers. For further information or to view a demonstration, visit booth 2241. FOSCAM'S PLUG-AND-PLAY CAMERA ALLOWS FOR REMOTE MONITORING Demand for security and monitoring cameras is one of the fastest growing seg- ments in the digital marketplace. People see a great need to keep an eye on their homes, offices, kids, babies and pets. Foscam's new plug and play monitoring camera cuts the set-up time down to minutes. Previous models take more time and steps to connect with routers, and consumers often need the help of an IT professional just to get things running. Now it can be done by anyone, even if you aren't tech savvy. Foscam US, a leader in the sales and manufacturing of security and monitor- ing cameras, has come up with a faster and cheaper solution with its new plug and play FI9821P V2 camera, which became available on November 25, 2013. "You can set this system up in five to 10 minutes, and then monitor any- thing that's important to you right from your smartphone, tablet or PC, from anywhere in the world," said Adam Ravat, CEO of the Houston-based Foscam. The FI9821P V2 currently sells for $149.99. Set-up is simple. Take the camera out of the box and plug it in. Then push the WPS button on the back of the cam- era and push the same WPS button on your home or office router. That synchro- nizes the two devices together. The for- mer, more-complicated setup which con- sisted of configuring your router manual- ly is now eliminated. The final steps are equally as easy. Download the free offi- cial Foscam app for the camera from your smartphone or tablet, then scan a QR code on the bottom of the camera that links the devices. The camera is then ready to help you watch what you love, from anywhere. Visit www.foscam.us or call 800-930- 0949 for more details.
