Yves Potvin, Garden Protein Founder and
President, Receives Innovation Award
Yves Potvin, founder and president of Garden Protein

Harney & Sons Founder John Harney Dies at 83
John Harney, founder of Harney & Sons Fine Teas died
on June 17 at the age of 83. His funeral was held on
Friday, June 20.
Already an experienced tea professional, thirty
years ago, at age 53, Harney set out to start a business
of his own. Originally a humble operation located in
the basement of the family's Connecticut home, Har-
ney & Sons grew rapidly, eventually expanding into
more spacious environs. Ten years ago, the company
moved into a 90,000 square foot factory, where com-
pany operations currently stand.
Decades after its founding, Harney & Sons contin-
ues to be a family-run business, and Harney was a part
of its daily operations even in his final year. In a profile
on the company that was published in the September
issue of Gourmet News, Harney's son Mike said that
his father continued to work every day alongside him
and his brother Paul. Mike continues to head the com-
pany's business and finances, while Paul manages
factory production and sales.
Prior to founding Harney & Sons, Harney served for
23 years as the manager of the White Hart Inn in Sal-
isbury, Conn. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps
from 1948 to 1952 and attended the Cornell University
School of Hotel Administration.

Marley Beverage Company Hires
New President and CEO
The Marley Beverage Company, a Michigan-based
new-age beverage manufacturer, recently announced
the appointment of Harry Bigelow as President and
Chief Executive Officer. Bigelow officially assumed his
new role on June 2, 2014.
Bigelow has more than 30 years of beverage indus-
try experience in North America in both the non-alco-
holic and alcoholic beverage sectors. He has held
positions of increasing responsibility and executive
management with E. & J. Gallo Winery, PepsiCo Inc,
Diageo North America and Red Bull GmbH. Most re-
cently, Bigelow served as General Manager and Vice
President of Red Bull North America.
