S o l a r Po we r D a i l y N e ws 1 3 Th u r s d a y, J u l y 1 0 , 2 0 1 4 the valley of the curved tiles and the wide base allows the installer to mount into the joist and hit the low point of the tiles. Serrations on the mounts give the installer extra insurance that the rails will not slide down after years of wear and tear. If one is looking for versatility, the 90° 38mm height adjustability Spanish tile hook resolves the following issues: tiles that were installed without batons; variance in tile thickness; and when height adjustment is required. This product can be used on flat and curved tiles, and is currently being used by some of the largest solar panel installers in the country. There is no better installation method available for metal roof tops than the Quickscrews' line of Stone Coat Steel roof hooks. The hooks allow the installer to add solar panels without drilling any holes in the roof, meaning there is no time Quickscrews ( Cont'd. from p. 1) spent with flashing. One screw is used to screw the hook into the joist and one screw into the baton. The end of the hook slips under the overlap and within a few minutes the rails are ready to be added. For asphalt shingles, Quickscrews' patented QuickBOLT is the best choice. An EPDM compression washer combined with a removable hanger bolt creates a 100 percent waterproof roof mount. The bolt has a Type 17 point in the lag thread, making it much easier to drive. Quickscrews used its woodworking knowledge to design this product – the screw does the work itself rather than the installer. The QuickBOLT can also be pur- chased with flashing and an offset l-foot. It is no surprise that Quickscrews is emerging as a leading innovator of solar roof mounting products. First, there has been a sig- nificant increase in our 300mm solar sim- ulator shipments not only in the U.S., but also internationally. Secondly, our appli- cation-specific solar simulators are being accepted as the standard around the world. SPDN: Can you expand on the second point – the increase in demand for the application-specific solar simulators? CT: Our optical engineering has created unique filters for these special Solar Simulators. Not only do we offer our complete line of standard solar simulators (50mm x 50mm, 100mm x 100mm, 156mm x 156mm, 208mm x 208mm and 300mm x 300mm), but, by adding the unique filter specific to the application, the user gets a simulator specifically designed for their unique application. We have been shipping more Dye Sensitive (DSSC), CPV and Multi-junction Simulators and now also offer a Single Long Pulse Solar Simulator and test sys- tem for High Efficiency Solar Cell Testing for both R&D and manufacturing. The system was specially built in consul- tation with NREL. It optimizes the bus- bar design and matches the pulse width and voltage sweep rate to a solar cell's dielectric response. Our simulator's Class AAA performance has been verified by NREL, which adds prestigious scientific support to the quality of our products. SPDN: You noted that the I-V test has also increased. Can you give us some background on that phase of the busi- ness? CT: We opened our Solar Test Lab about one year ago. We have tested various types of solar cells from around the world and have developed some unique and advanced testing approaches while fol- lowing IEC guidelines. These tests have been verified at NREL. We can now offer these test services to our customers. Our new testing methodology is being further certified by the Fraunhofer Institute. We OAI ( Cont'd. from p. 1) work very closely with our customers to insure that test results truly represent their cells. We always incorporate and update the new testing methodology and best practices in our standard testing sys- tem for sale to our customers. SPDN: Where is OAI's solar test busi- ness headed? CT: Although we continue to work with various startups in R&D and have been certifying their solar cells for the last sev- eral months, we are also working to move into production/manufacturing environ- ments. OAI is following a two-prong strat- egy: first is getting our systems qualified to be OEM for several large solar capital equipment companies and secondly, directly working with various key solar cell manufacturing companies in Taiwan and China. OAI is also having our solar cell I-V testing methodology certified by the Frauhofer Institute in Germany, whose standards are used by all solar cell manu- facturers. By applying our automation expertise used in 40 years of manufactur- ing semiconductor production systems, OAI is able to integrate our systems for R&D into the full production environment. SPDN: You mentioned OAI's partnering with it customers. Can you elaborate? CT: OAI has always been market driven. We work with our customers to develop the specifications they require and then OAI develops new products to match these specifications. We also customize our existing products to meet each cus- tomer's requirements. OAI always invites our current and prospective cus- tomers to sit down with us and discuss their specific solar simulation and test needs. This includes both our domestic customers as well as our international customer base. Our top priority is to sup- port our customers worldwide with a full team of design engineers, application engineers and field service.
