S o l a r Po we r D a i l y N e ws W e d n e s d a y, J u l y 9 , 2 0 1 4 8 OAI'S ADVACED I-V TEST TECHNOLGY MOVES FROM LABORATORY TO PRODUCTION Test results verified by NREL. Since the introduction of its first Class AAA Solar Simulators five years ago, OAI has gained substantial market share and has become one of the lead- ing suppliers of solar simulators and I- V test equipment for R&D and produc- tion. "A major driving force for this increase in market share is OAI's advanced I-V test technology," said Dr. Mohan Bhan, Director of OAI's Solar Test Equipment Division. In OAI's Solar Test lab, various types of solar cells that are provided by customers from around the world have been tested. By analyzing test parameters such as pulse width, sweep rate, for- ward and reverse sweeps, contact resistance and bus bar design, OAI developed its advanced I-V test methodology. OAI's test results were then verified at NREL. The optimized parameters are now incorporated into each customer's Solar Simulator and I- V Test System, providing OAI cus- tomers with the most accurate I-V test results (fill factors, electrical parame- ters and efficiencies). In addition to its standard Class AAA Solar Simulators, OAI provides application-specific Class AAA Solar Simulators for c-Si, DSSC, organic, multi- junction and various thin-film based solar cells. Each of these types of solar cells responds differently to I-V measurement methodology. By applying its advanced I- V test technology to each cell type, OAI offers complete application-specific solar simulators and I-V test systems specific to each specific type of solar cell. For production, OAI also intro- duced its new Single Long Pulse Simulation and Test System. The Single Long Pulse System optimizes pulse width and voltage sweep rate, and overcomes the limitations of a flash tester. This production sys- tem uses the advanced I-V Rider soft- ware which senses each I-V test point and nor- malizes the data to account for even the shortest temporal light instability. OAI's manufactur- ing facility and Solar Cell Test Lab are locat- ed in San Jose, Calif. Both R&D and engi- neering for solar cell testing methodol- ogy are located at that facility. OAI invites all customers, government labs, universities, startup companies and solar cell production facilities to part- ner with OAI and to test and verify their solar cells at OAI. The expertise we've developed in roll forming and continu- ing innovation of our products led us to form Powers Solar Frames and the development of our solar components beginning in 2009, which are now being used across the U.S. To date, over 500,000 feet of our Super Slide-in Purlin is now in place, with that number increasing monthly. SPDN: Are you introducing any new products? JP: We will be introducing our new gen- eration of Powers Slide-In Super Purlins at Intersolar, along with our ground wire ready Solar Panel Gator Clamp, which when used with our other Solar Racking components will translate to very signifi- cant savings with any Solar Carport or Ground Mount project. SPDN: What distinguishes your products as being the hottest this year? What dis- tinguishes your products from the com- petition? JP: Powers Solar products allow a developer/installer to reduce the amount of purlin footage needed by as much as 45 percent, reduces install time and reduces labor costs. With safety being a huge concern and often a considerable commitment of resources, using our solar racking system allows the entire installation of components and panels to be done from a scissor lift for Solar Powers Steel & Wire ( Cont'd. from p. 1) Carport projects or from the ground for Ground Mount projects, eliminating the need for workers to be on top of the structure. This generates significant sav- ings on every Solar Carport or Ground Mount project. SPDN: Who are your target end-users? JP: Very simply, any developer, contrac- tor or installer that is interested in saving money and resources on their next solar structure project. SPDN: Compare the position of your products and technology against the cur- rent market. JP: Powers Solar components are in a standalone class when you consider qual- ity, reduction of purlin usage and reduc- tion of install time, combine to generate significant dollar savings on each project. SPDN: Tell our readers about your trade show objectives. JP: We want to introduce Powers new Super Purlins and array of Solar Racking components to the industry attendees in such a way that they fully understand the benefits of Powers Solar Frames and doing business with our team. SPDN: What is your outlook in general for this product line? JP: As we look forward, the benefits of Powers Solar Frames will keep us at the forefront of the explosive growth of Solar Carports and Ground Mounts throughout the country. Compared to other methods, roll forming is a much more rapid process. Holes and notches can be added to the roll formed parts by utilizing in line presses. This means less time in the final assembly process and eliminates a secondary operation. The lengths of the components being formed are not limited and this offers great flexi- bility for various requirements. At Custom Rollforming Corporation, we make use of Bradbury equipment inside of our 52,000 square foot building. Our 10 roll forming lines and specialty equipment is reliable, accu- rate and productive. Whether a project requires parts that have a common profile or are more com- plex in their design, CRC has the neces- Custom Rollforming ( Cont'd. from p. 1) sary resources and experience to be a reliable partner for any solar venture. Our history of providing competitive pricing, outstanding quality and attentive service means we are prepared to assist you with your next endeavor. Please contact CRC Solar for estimates on your upcoming projects. Being an independent, family-run company since 1923, SCHNEEBERGER remains focused on our valued cus- tomers, making it easy for them to do business with us. SPDN: What products do you see as being hottest this year? JD: Basically, all product lines are doing quite well this year, but if I have to pick, I would say our MINISCALE (minirail with integrated measuring system) and our custom-made motion systems. SPDN: Compare the position of your products and their technology against the current market. JD: With the first linear guideways con- ceived and developed by SCHNEE- BERGER nearly 70 years ago, the foun- dation was established for the worldwide linear technology of today. Our original design criteria for the fabrication of lin- ear guideways set the standard for load- bearing capacity, reliability and economy which are still valid today. The same maxims which were the basis for our initial success continue to dominate our thinking and our actions in all product lines: the spirit of innovation, uncompromising quality and the ambi- tion to always be in the position to offer our customers new, technically and eco- nomically-superior products. Then as now, the name SCHNEEBERGER is a synonym for modern linear technology Schneeberger ( Cont'd. from p. 1) all over the world. SPDN: Tell our readers about your trade show objectives, plans, products, promo- tions, etc. JD: For SCHNEEBERGER, Intersolar North America is primarily a showcase for our linear motion systems expertise and combination technology. Many cus- tomers who recognize SCHNEEBERG- ER as a leader in linear bearing technol- ogy are surprised to learn that we have been designing and building turn-key motion systems for over two decades which meet the most demanding posi- tioning requirements for wafer, flat panel, life science metrology and pro- cessing. We also have a working demo unit to spotlight our newest component technology named MINISCALE; com- bining Minirail profiled guideway with 0.1 µm optical encoder. SPDN: How do you see next year in terms of economy, sales, technology and product evolution? JD: With the information I have today, I expect a very positive 2015 in terms of sales, with many of our customers introducing new tools to the market using SCHNEEBERGER products. Technologically, I see a trend towards higher dynamics and even more precise positioning. This matches perfectly with our product portfolio and R&D roadmap.
