Favorite of the Lone Star State When the founders of Texas Tamale Com- pany realized that no gourmet quality tamale was being made for sale in the Houston area, they made their first foray into the tamale business. With their home- made recipes for "Lard Free" tamales and delicious salsas, they launched a street cor- ner business. Enough interest was gener- ated that they began selling from a street-side cart on the far west side of Houston. Over the years, the business has grown from the familiar Tamale Cart into the present day incarnation of Texas Tamale Company. The company now has over 100 products under several labels, in- cluding its well-known Brazos Legends brand. Even though its tamales, Homestyle Chili and Chili Con Queso are no longer made "a la tamale cart," the company prides itself on maintaining gourmet-qual- ity products. The New York Times, Texas Monthly and the Houston Chronicle have all given rave reviews for its mail order tamales. Texas Monthly named it the best mail order tamale in Texas. Yes, the company even ships its husk-wrapped delights to such remote and foreign outposts as New York and Boston. The company also believes that the cus- tomer is always right. Especially these folks: "I'm certainly no health nut, but your gluten-free chicken tamales are not only the tastiest around, you can just tell they are cooked with extra care and are healthier than most options. Thanks for working with those of us that love good food, and have high hopes for bikini season!" "Everything was spectacular and deli- cious." "They are by far the best I've had in any restaurant... fresh and definitely better than anything frozen I've ever eaten. I got these at my local health food store and they were awesome! I will be buying these again! I was very happy to find out it is gluten-free as well!" With the exception of its tamales, you may know them best for the canvas bags they come in. They certainly stand out in a gro- cer's freezer. Their natural color and textured fabric is just another reminder of the all-nat- ural. homemade feel the company puts into everything it does. That's why the company likes to say whenever you see it's Texas Tamales, you know "Dinner is in the bag!" Keeping your good health in mind, it chooses to make its tamales with pure veg- etable shortening (instead of artery-clogging lard) and the highest quality meat/chicken and cheeses. Texas Tamale Company hopes you will share in its passion for the superior tamales, quality drink mixes, salsas, BBQ and finishing sauces.
