It's Not a New Cuisine, It's a New Favorite Citing American demands for more Malaysian food imports, the Malaysian gov- ernment, through the Malaysia Kitchen for the World Program, has stepped up efforts to bring its various all-natural product lines to supermarket shelves in the U.S. With the National Restaurant Association recently naming Malaysian cuisine as a top flavor trend for 2014, and Mintel reporting that Asian food sales increased by 27 percent from 2008 to 2013, it has become quickly apparent to food industry professionals that Americans already have a taste for the com- plex and aromatic zests of Malay fare. As American eating habits continue their shift toward healthier, all-natural options, Malaysian cuisine finds itself ideally posi- tioned to answer the call for fresh foods that don't sacrifice flavor. In combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and Nonya cooking styles with Malaysia's unique legacy as the center of the 15th century spice trade, the country produces some of the most robust, natural flavors in the world. Many of the new products available in U.S. supermarkets feature convenient prepa- ration methods that specifically cater to the needs of the time-starved home cook. Malaysian brands that consumers will look for on their next trip down the ethnic foods aisle include Lingham's, Brahim's, Nona, Vias Premium Spices, BOH tea and many more. With the addition of a just a few of these delicious, all-natural products to their kitchen, almost anyone can master au- thentic Malaysian cooking at home. Visit the Malaysia Kitchen Program in booth #5413 at the Summer Fancy Food Show to sample authentic Malaysian cuisine prepared by teaching chef, cookbook author and Malaysia's Food Ambassador to the U.S., Christina Arokiasamy. About Malaysia Kitchen for the World Program Malaysia Kitchen for the World (MKP), a program under Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MA- TRADE), is the gateway to making Malaysian products and cuisine accessible to everyone by providing information and all- natural food products that come straight from the source. Bissinger's Triples Capacity with New Facility, Expands with High-Growth Wholesale Business Backed by centuries of confectionery excel- lence, Bissinger's finds itself on the cusp of a new era. The industry-revered chocolate company just won its fourth sofi™ Award for its Apple Ghost Chili Salt Caramel and is in the midst of spending $15 million to ren- ovate a 223,000 square foot building that will serve as its new headquarters facility. A new CEO, Tim Fogerty, is at the helm along with several new key executives. "It's a transformative time," said President and CEO Fogerty. "The new building will allow us to combine multiple operations under one roof and accommodate future growth." Originally built as the Missouri, Kansas and Texas (MKT) Railroad Depot, the building is comprised of three stories with 85,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 38,000 square feet of office and special event space. One of the most dramatic features will be a new rooftop patio. The venue, the Caramel Room, is al- ready booking private events ranging from 100-500 people, and plans are to eventually offer private tours as well. The new construction will keep the build- ing's historical integrity in mind. "We are committed to the building's rich history and its quality craftsmanship ties in beautifully with Bissinger's own 350-year legacy and high standard," Fogerty said. Bissinger's is likely the only confectionery company based in the United States that can trace its roots back to 17th century France, where King Louis XIV granted it the title of "Confiseur Imperial" for con- fectionery excellence. The Bissinger family came to the United States in 1845 to continue its passion for the confectionery craft. "To this day," said Fogerty, "we seek out only the finest ingredients to provide both unique and sophisticated flavor combinations – all while staying true to our long-standing legacy."
