Vermont Harvest Continues to Bask in the Glory of Its sofi in 2013 By Whip Burks, Owner, Vermont Harvest Vermont Harvest's Tiger Satay Peanut Sauce was named a Finalist for Cooking Sauce or Flavor Enhancer in the 2013 sofi™ Awards from the Specialty Food Association. A sofi Award, which stands for "Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation" is the top honor in the $86 billion industry of spe- cialty foods. The company was thrilled to learn that its Tiger Satay Peanut Sauce made it to the fi- nals. Vermont Harvest's customers continu- ally report that this is the best Peanut Sauce in a bottle, and the company is delighted that the judges liked it too. Since Vermont Har- vest created this sauce gluten-free, it is ac- cessible to those with gluten allergies. Although the company did not take home the Gold sofi, it still believes the real honor is being selected by the experts of the spe- cialty food trade. Fresh off the first such sofi recognition in its 30-year history, Vermont Harvest is eager to find a way back into the winner's circle. Since the award was announced, Vermont Harvest has had many doors open that would not have been possible without the recognition of its outstanding products. The Tiger Satay sauce has been a leader ever since the company introduced it four years ago; this award has merely made the sauce that much popular. The nice thing about the award has been the press Vermont Harvest has received from publications all over the country. The com- pany has even moved into Canada, and ad- ditional foreign markets are lining up to start carrying Vermont Harvest's products. The Tiger Satay sauce is usually the product that seals the deal. The com- pany is looking at other mar- kets and deciding where to head next. Vermont Harvest Owner Whip Burks is a classically trained chef from the New England Culinary Institute who decided to purchase the 30-year old company in 2007. His Tiger Satay sauce and other products are sold at specialty shops and sections around the country and online at www.vermontharvest.com. The sofi Awards are open to members of the Specialty Food Association, a not-for- profit trade association established in 1952. Members consist of food artisans, importers and entrepreneurs, with more than 3,000 members in the U.S. and abroad. "Specialty food makers bring craft, care and joy to the foods they create. To be hon- ored with a sofi Award nomination means the product truly stands out above the rest," said Specialty Food Association President Ann Daw. About Vermont Harvest Since 1983, Vermont Harvest has produced the finest gourmet condi- ments with excellently crafted recipes. The company's homemade jams, conserves, chutneys, spreads and sauces offer distinct flavors that con- sumers will not find in any average condi- ment. Vermont Harvest includes only the finest ingredients in its recipes, creating in small batches without additives or preserva- tives, in order to ensure the best untainted flavor imaginable. All of the company's products are now gluten-free.
