H o s p i ta l i t y & D e s i g n S h o w D a i l y 1 1 Tu e s d a y, J u n e 1 0 , 2 0 1 4 FIRE FARM LIGHTING OFFERS CUSTOM SOLUTIONS Fire Farm is one of the few lighting com- panies still producing in the United States that can create custom LED lighting fix- tures that are UL Listed to spec. The com- pany relocated its facility from the San Francisco Bay Area to the small rural town of Elkader, Iowa, in 2001, so it could con- tinue to manufacture in the United States. The close control over its process allows the company to produce small, short-run custom fixtures that are unique to anything in the market and can be specifically tai- lored to the needs of a project. The focus on custom fabrication and meeting such varied client design requests has created a rich repository of material knowledge and fabrication experience. Fire Farm is one of the most innovative and explorative lighting com- panies producing right now. Fire Farm doesn't shy away from larger runs or production-oriented designs, either. Adam Jackson Pollock, the Founder and Creative Director at Fire Farm, points to its experience making product for the wholesale residential lighting market and the quick-turn- around requirements of one-off custom fabrication as key to Fire Farm's ability to develop production-friendly designs quickly and efficiently. In an unusual twist, Pollock points out that Fire Farm, in addition to produc- ing fixtures directly for the professional design community, also pro- vides the services of design development, production and distribution to other manufac- turers looking to tap Fire Farm's creative talents and expertise. Working with Fire Farm can shorten the concept- to-market time for companies, streamlining their costs and providing scalable solutions without the significant investment that would be required to set up lighting production internally. Pollock notes that Fire Farm "has so many concepts that spin off of the custom work that we simply don't have time to explore them all internally. We realized there was no reason not to work with oth- ers and create a win-win relationship. Fire Farm designs are so distinctive that there really isn't any dilution to our own brand." Co-branding with other companies known for materials rather than furnishings is also a growing sector of the busi- ness. Fire Farm works with a number of fabric and plastics vendors to create light fix- tures that highlight these materials. For example, Fire Farm and Moz Designs are currently collaborating on a series of light fixtures showcasing the beautiful patterned aluminum panels Moz is famous for innovating. Watch for them, they should be interesting! Pollock will be present in the Fire Farm booth 8-1089 for conversation dur- ing the show. Visit Fire Farm at booth 8-1089. COUCH INTRODUCES NEW STATEMENT FABRIC: MARRAKESH By Julin An, Marketing Department, D.L.Couch Introduced in the fall of 2012, the Source One Upholstery line from D.L. Couch is both useable and inspirational. Offering a mix of woven Crypton and Nanotex options, high performance vinyls and eco-friendly polyurethane choices, the Source One Upholstery line provides broad appeal to a variety of market segments. The newest addition to Source One Upholstery, Marrakesh, adds a Middle Eastern flair to the collection. Reminiscent of the decorative scroll work found on the mosques and public buildings of the area, this beautifully intertwined medallion is offered in five rich, vibrant colors. Use the bright white and cool gray options as high impact neutrals, or incor- porate saturation with the blazing yellow, high pitched cayenne or jeweled peacock centered on deep slate and chocolate. Alter the mood of any space by choosing from Marrakesh's diversified palette – choose to add soft- ness and femininity with the floral-like design in neutral, or add spice to a space with a pop of saturated global influ- ence. Choose your color to create a personalized, styl- ized, eclectic look. Pairing high durability with high design, Marrakesh is suitable for any environment looking for a "wow" factor. Comprised of 100 percent polyester and finished with Nanotex, Marrakesh will perform in high traffic spaces while being the focal point of a room. The rich, luxurious look of Marrakesh will capture attention with a 14-inch horizontal repeat and a 9-inch vertical repeat, bringing the bold medallion front and center. Marrakesh has been treat- ed with NanoTex, and like all Source One Upholstery fab- rics, meets or exceeds ACT standards. Source One Upholstery is distributed by the Global Network – D.L. LVT STEPS UP WITH INTERSECTED GRAPHIC FLOOR TILE LVT is the fastest-growing flooring cate- gory in the market today, yet it has held little interest as a design element – until now. Working with global design leaders Corgan Associates, Mannington Commercial has launched a rethink of LVT in the Intersected collection. "To date, we haven't seen LVT as a forward-thinking design element, but instead as a product of value engineer- ing," said Lindsay Wilson of Corgan, who led the product development team. "Nobody says, 'I'm going to use LVT because of its design flexibility, or because it would add interest to my space.'" Applying the design principles of modular carpet with the performance benefits of LVT, Intersected is an evolu- tion of the product, into what Mannington and Corgan are calling "Graphic Floor Tile." Because it is designed for modular installation, the collection offers limitless pattern possibilities for hospitality proj- ects. The products are beautiful, built around a sophisticated use of texture and color gradations, and integrated accents that give designers the ability to cus- tomize with pops of color. The effect is a random, gradated look that perfectly cap- tures the interconnected nature of today's workplace. Easily customizable installations can define spaces within interior environ- ments, arranged to emphasize the energy of a public space or the sophisticated quiet around meeting areas, with beauti- ful transitional cues in between. Launched at NeoCon 2014 as part of the Amtico collection, the products bring legendary durability, ease of maintenance and stain-resistance of the brand. This performance story is enhanced by Mannington's patented Quantum Guard™ HP wearlayer. An aluminum oxide topcoat cured by an ultraviolet process, Quantum Guard enhances low- maintenance cleanability, durability and slip-resistant reliability. Additionally, building upon its industry-leading recycling of postcon- sumer carpet, resilient sheet, VCT, dry- wall and windshield glass into new prod- ucts, Mannington is pioneering recycling of postconsumer LVT into new products. Every year, the company's LOOP recla- mation programs keep millions of pounds of waste out of landfills, recy- cling it into new LVT, VCT, carpet, resilient sheet and wall base. SMITH & FONG LAUNCHES THREE NEW BAMBOO PANEL LINES Intectural is proud to highlight bamboo materials from award winning Smith & Fong Plyboo. Considering the benefits of an expanding bamboo industry glob- ally, there is much good to be said of it. Bamboo is rapidly renewable and grown without fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation, and can sequester up to 70 percent more carbon per year than a hardwood forest. Smith & Fong, the manufacturers and brand holders of the world-renowned trade name Plyboo ® , have been pioneers in the bamboo world for more than two decades. Early innovators in the laminat- ed bamboo process, Smith & Fong was first to market with bamboo flooring in 1993 and bamboo plywood in 1996. For 2014, the company is wowing the design world with the launch of three new bamboo panel lines: Reveal, Sound and Linear. The three lines make up a total of 21 different looks that will change your view of bamboo. The Reveal Collection is richly intri- cate and patterned, evoking everything from contemporary to tribal. The Sound Collection embraces both the need for style and noise reduction. The Linear Collection integrates an asymmetrical line pattern with random tonal arrangements in the core. Designed with a stranded bamboo core of both light and dark fibers, the LL1 and LL4 panels evoke the warp and weave structure of a handmade textile. Staying creative and with an eye on sustainability, Smith & Fong was first to bring formaldehyde-free manufacturing and FSC certified bamboo to the expand- ing green marketplace. This earned the company the honor of Environment Building News' top ten green building products for 2008. With success inte- grating a soy-based formaldehyde-free resin into their manufacturing process- es and with many LEED projects to their credit, Smith & Fong continues to push the creative lim- its of bamboo and sus- tainability. The full collection is now offered under the Declare Certification pro- gram from the Living Future Institute and comes with their highest environmental rating.
