SUMMER SHOWS PREVIEW 2 0 KITCHENWARE NEWS & HOUSEWARES REVIEW ■ JUNE 2014 ■ www.kitchenwarenews.com BY AMBER GALLEGOS The summer season of markets is here, and with that comes a plethora of opportunities to get out and see the latest in kitchenware and housewares offerings in person. This summer's shows promise to lead with innovations and trends that are a must see for retailers gearing up for the upcoming fall and holiday season. The Dallas Total Home and Gift Market takes place from June 18-24 at the Dallas Market Center. The seven day market with permanent showrooms and temporary booths will feature more than 1,500 housewares and gourmet product lines. In addition to showcasing the latest merchandise offerings, there will be educational and entertainment events during the week-long show. Jason Dorsey, known as The Gen Y Guy®, best-selling author of "My Reality Check Bounced!" and "Y-Size Your Business," will host a seminar exploring Gen Y 's consumer and employee mindset. Chefs taking on the Culinary Stage include Tim Byres, Owner and Chef at Smoke, Chad Houser, Chef and Founder of Café Momentum, Scott Gottlich, Owner and Chef at Bijoux, and Anthony Van Camp, Executive Chef at SĒR Steak+Spirits. Other features at the Dallas Market include live styling and food demos, seminars focusing on incorporating social media into marketing plans and other design relevant topics, plus a Christmas HQ. The Atlanta international Gift and Home Furnishings Market will take place at AmericasMart from July 8-15. With buyers from all 50 states and 90 different countries expected, there will be more than 1,400 showrooms and more than 2,500 temporary exhibiting companies. Live cooking demos by a variety of chefs will take place including presentations by Sunny Anderson of Food Network's "The Kitchen," Chadwick Boyd Summer Markets Shine of Lovely and Delicious blog, and Holeman and Finch Public House. Featured seminar presenters include Brian Patrick Flynn, of of Flynnside Out Productions, Lisa Orrell, Generations Relations & Leadership Expert, Christiane Lemieux, Founder and Creative Director of Dwell Studio, and Kelly Kegans, f rom Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. Published authors will also be on hand for book signings. The Las Vegas Market takes place from July 27-31 at the World Market Center Las Vegas. This summer's market will be the first to feature a Sunday through Thursday schedule. The five million square foot campus will host more than 1,200 exhibitors across categories such as furniture, home décor and gifts. New category additions f rom 2013 include specialty tabletop, lifestyle merchandise, fashion accessories and artisanal crafts. The market will also feature complimentary educational programming focusing on in- store marketing, social media and merchandising. Celebrity interior designers and entrepreneurs Lori Dennis and Kelli Ellis will host Design Camp, a two-day "designer boot camp." Other featured special programming includes Fast Track, a presentation that offers insights to the latest new furnishings and gifts being introduced at the market. NY NOW The Market for Home + Lifestyle takes place f rom August 16-20 at New York City 's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal's Pier 94. The five-day market has four product collections, Handmade, Home, Lifestyle and New, with more than 2,800 new and returning home and lifestyle brands and 35,000 attendees f rom 80 countries. Included under the Home category are Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares, which will feature nearly 250 home entertaining, gourmet kitchenware and specialty tabletop resources. In addition to this, seminars and events have been planned to offer participants a variety of educational and entertainment options throughout the market.
