Re s ta u ra n t D a i l y N e ws 3 5 M o n d a y, M a y 1 9 , 2 0 1 4 THE MICHIGAN POTATO INDUSTRY PROMOTES AWARENESS The Michigan Potato Industry Commission's (MPIC) mission statement is simple: to promote an economically viable potato industry in Michigan by providing responsible leadership for the industry. With funding from the growers and shippers, it is able to achieve this goal through research, promotion, educa- tion and communication. However, pota- toes grown in Michigan do not supply strictly consumers and processors in Michigan. Though it does play a large part in its home state, the Michigan pota- to industry supplies potatoes across the United States. Today, roots and tubers are the third largest carbohydrate food source, with potatoes representing nearly half of all root crops consumed (FAO/WHO report). Potatoes continue to be valued for their durability and the fact that they are nutrient-rich. MPIC wants to make consumers aware of all the benefits potatoes provide and also the fact that Michigan does pro- duce potatoes considered some of the best in the United States. MPIC conducts research year-round in order to provide only the latest news concerning everything in the world of potatoes. It is this same research that allows the state to produce some of the best potatoes in the nation. Research on new varieties, utilizing modern technolo- gy to extend the storage season and iden- tifying ways to reduce environmental impacts are all areas of focus. Mike Wenkel, Executive Director of the Michigan Potato Industry Commission, said that Michigan is a great hub for potato distribution. "Being only 25 hours away from the furthest points on the east coast, we can reach a majority of the nation's population quickly." This ensures that Michigan potatoes are delivered fresh and cuts down on the carbon footprint of deliver- ing potatoes to customers, something that the growers have great interest in. Overall education is MPIC's main objective. It wants to inform consumers on the large growth of population for potatoes that is happening, and all the great ways potatoes can benefit the lives of consumers. AMERICAN DRYER INTRODUCES INDUSTRY-FIRST ADA WALL GUARD FOR HAND DRYERS Creative thinking yielded valuable results when American Dryer's engineer- ing team took on the challenge of creat- ing a better way to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards to assure that restroom users living with disabilities can easily access American Dryer hand dryers. American Dryer's new patent-pend- ing Wall Guard is ADA-compliant, achieving the four-inch-or-less unit pro- trusion guidelines without the need to recess the accompanying dryer into the wall, thus eliminating the need to cut holes into restroom walls. This is espe- cially valuable when walls are cinder block, masonry or other difficult-to-mod- ify surfaces. The standalone Wall Guard is designed to sit below the dryer and is easily installed using just the four screws provided. It achieves ADA compliance and provides safety for users living with disabilities because its curved lower edge assures that the "leading edge" of the dryer-with-wall-guard unit is 26 inches or less from the finished floor, a distance that meets ADA standards to protect peo- ple using wheelchairs or walking aids. Wall Guard, which features elegant, seamless one-piece stainless steel con- struction can be paired with American Dryer's high-speed, energy-efficient eXtremeAir, its Advantage™ and its Global ® Series for ADA compliance. According to American Dryer Vice President of Sales and Technology Michael Robert, "ADA restroom compli- ance is important, and for hand dryers, it can now be achieved without the time and expense of making a hole in the rest- room wall and doing a retrofit for the dryer system. What's more, the Wall Guard design, with its one-piece struc- ture and curved bottom, helps assure clean, dry walls and even, unlike most wall guards, a dry floor beneath. Water evaporates along the surface of American Dryer's Wall Guard, instead of puddling on the floor as happens with the typical wall guard. Dry walls and floors are a plus for all hand dryer installations, not just for ADA concerns." American Dryer Wall Guard, con- structed with strong, 19-gauge stainless steel, measures a compact 9-3/8 inches wide by 18 inches high by 3-1/2 inches deep to pair with American's physically compact line of dryers. "Architects and specifiers have long told us that they prefer a smaller, less obtrusive dryer to the larger models on the market," said Robert. "Fortunately, all the engineering needed to achieve best-in-class performance fits nicely into that smaller profile, for both American Dryer's hand dryers and now its coordi- nating new Wall Guard." ENDURA XL TAKES THE STAGE AT A SHOW NEAR YOU Canplas is previewing its latest Grease Interceptor solution at NRA 2014 ahead of launching the all new Endura XL in fall 2014. The latest addition to the Endura Grease Management line will provide high performance Hydromechanical (HGI) solutions with both 75GPM and 100GPM models. Unique in the operation of Endura XL will be the patent pending Dynamic Inlet Baffle, with the function, effec- tiveness and longevity of the units, building on the field-proven open con- cept, balanced-air approach from the existing Canplas Endura line. The development of XL began with significant market research, talking to a broad group of key users that interact with Grease Interceptors on a regular basis. This research was invaluable and was the basis of the upcoming Endura XL products. Canplas is now making an unprece- dented approach in the advanced stage of the development, taking the proposed Endura XL units "on the road." Attending numerous tradeshows in the next six months across the U.S. and Canada (check out www.EnduraXL.com for details), Canplas is targeting a broader sample of those same user groups that originally gave their input. "This is perhaps an unusual approach," said Andrew Bird, Business Development Manager, Plumbing. "Typically, a new product of this type would be kept firmly under wraps until it was available for sale, but in the case of Endura XL we want to gain the broadest validation of the design and its key elements, in the shortest possible time peri- od. The most effective way to do this was to generate a full size unit with all the function- al elements that users can actu- ally interact with. Seeing is believing!" This approach is not only anticipated to see positive validation of the Endura XL design and features, but also indicate the basis of ongoing developments, pro- vide input on product options both pre and post launch, as well as generating a database of key contacts who want to be kept informed of key milestones toward the availability of Endura XL. In addition, Canplas is also seeking a limited number of "early-adopter" installers, ideally in conjunction with their local jurisdiction and a pumper, who would be interested in the opportunity to make an installation prior to market availability of Endura XL. This will take place fol- lowing full certification testing to ensure code compliance and product performance is verified. If you are interested in this unique opportunity to be one of the first to work with Endura XL, you can contact Canplas at www.EnduraXL.com. Canplas is a manufacturer of differ- entiated injection molded products for the construction industry – a leader in the development of innovative plastic prod- ucts for almost 50 years. Both Canplas ® Industries Ltd. and Canplas LLC are members of the Aliaxis Group of compa- nies, a global leader of plastic solutions for fluid transport in the field of building materials. Gamboa founded El Yucateco, his vision was to share his family's personal recipes and homemade-style Habanero salsas, shar- ing the authentic flavor of the Yucatan with the rest of the world. Today, along with a full line of sal- sas, marinades, beverages and other products, El Yucateco ® is the maker of the No. 1 selling Habanero sauce in the United States. Unlike many others, El Yucateco uses the whole fruit of the Habanero, providing a rich thick and fresh, flavor-forward sauce that is loved by not only the chili heads of the world, but sauce lovers of every heat scale and experience level. Over the past few years, hot sauce in general has taken the condiment category by storm. Flavor and heat preferences have shifted and Habanero is the fastest growing flavor in the hot sauce arena, second only to wing sauce. There is no end to the creative recipe exploration and con- sumer demand. El Yucateco salsas are not made to set fire to one's palate but instead are made to complement favored dishes as a condiment and inspire new creative recipes as an ingredient. Padilla ISM™ has had the privilege of being the exclusive import and mar- keting company for El Yucateco in the United States and Canada for well over 20 years. Together the company has built this brand to be widely recognized across many different con- sumer segments. The flexibility and robust flavor El Yucateco's prod- ucts bring will wow your senses with every bite. Stop by booth #1821 and experience the true taste of the Yucatan.
