HOUSEWARES SHOW WRAPUP 1 6 KITCHENWARE NEWS & HOUSEWARES REVIEW n MAY 2014 n www.kitchenwarenews.com TSM PRODUCTS: A FRESH APPROACH TO CLEAN EATING. TSM Products, a division of The Sausage Maker, Inc. is a U.S.A. based company with more than 40 years of experience in the manufacturing and sales of food processing equipment. This March, TSM exhibited for its second year at the 2014 International Home + Housewares Show. An area of particular interest for many of those who stopped by TSM's booth was three new fermentation crock lines (Decorative, German-Style and Harvest), sourced from artisans across the globe and perfect for fermenting foods at home. Another area of interest was in TSM's U.S.A. made sausage stuffers and smokehouses, which are experiencing a renaissance, thanks in part to the resurgence of the charcuterie and small batch gourmet sausages movement led by chefs and foodies alike. In a separate, but equally popular, category, TSM's meat grinders molded from stainless steel using classic, old-world dies, made exclusively for TSM continued to get praise for their smooth operation and rugged construction. Talisman Designs 952.681.2866 www.talismandesigns.com Remington® has introduced a new model for its signature product - iCoffee® by Remington. The new model with an insulated thermal carafe was showcased in demonstrations at the International Home+Housewares Show. "A new model of iCoffee featuring a thermal carafe is a significant addition to our expanding line of products," says inventor and Remington CEO Bruce Burrows. " We continuously work to improve and enhance the coffee experience for our customers and are excited to introduce new features and products for our loyal users." The insulated thermal carafe keeps coffee warm for up to two hours and has a 10-cup capacity. The suggested retail price is $199.95. The new iCoffee with thermal carafe joined four additional Remington products that were introduced at IH+HS this year, including iCup™, IEspresso™, JetBrew™ and MinuteBrew™. Overall, the machines are designed to produce French press- quality coffee in an automatic machine that consumers can use at home every day, says Humam Alwan, Director of Training and Demonstration for Remington. According to inventor Bruce Burrows, iCoffee took seven years and more than 1,257 prototypes to perfect. iCoffee's patented SteamBrew™ technology makes it the first coffee brewer ever to utilize steam jets inside the coffee brew basket. The SteamBrew jets first pre-steam the coffee to bloom the grounds and then stir the coffee throughout the brewing process so each of the coffee grounds is completely suspended and surrounded by hot water at the perfect brewing temperature. As the coffee is tumbled, carbon dioxide is produced in bubbles that form a rich coffee crema that releases the coffee's natural acidity into the atmosphere, so that it's out of the coffee. "The effect is an impossibly smooth cup of coffee," Alwan says. " W hat we've done is redefine coffeemaking," adds Burrows. "The 'i' in iCoffee stands for innovation, which is what we strive for in all our products. With iCoffee, we've found a way to use all the goodness of steam to release the locked- in flavors of your favorite coffee grounds, just like steaming rice and vegetables. This Remington Shows Off iCoffee at IH+HS eliminates any bitterness and the result is impossibly smooth tasting coffee. There's never been a machine in coffee brewing history that uses this technology. The difference in taste is unprecedented." iCoffee also features an exclusive brew viewing window, which allows coffee lovers to watch the SteamBrew process in action, including the formation of rich coffee crema. According to Burrows, because SteamBrew technology enables maximum flavor extraction, users should experiment to determine the optimal ratio of water to coffee they prefer. "For the first pot, we suggest using the amount of coffee you normally add per cup when brewing. After the first pot, you can adjust the amount of coffee used by adding more or using less coffee in the SteamBrew basket to achieve the strength and flavor you prefer. Many people find they need less coffee than they did when using other coffee brewers." Burrows also notes that with iCoffee, finely extracted coffee essence, or sediment, may be visible after brewing. "This is normal and a result of our patented SteamBrew extraction technology," he says. "O ur reusable goldtone filter allows more coffee essence to come through. If you prefer less finely extracted coffee essence, we have included an optional filter that provides a paper filter experience." The iCup machine uses similar technology in a single-serve machine that will be available in the third quarter of this year. iCup will use any K- cup-type pod on the market. The retail price for iCup was not set at the time of the show, but Alwan suggests that it will be priced to compete favorably with other single-serve coffee brewers. iCoffee retails for $169.95 and is available in more than 800 retail locations in the U.S., including major national chain stores, local independent retailers, Home Shopping Network and online via www.icoffee.com.
