Bro a d c a s te r s S h o w D a i l y 4 7 Tu e s d a y, A p ri l 8 , 2 0 1 4 stream processers. BSD: What products will you be show- casing this year? CK: Our Mobile DTV/White Space broadcast systems. We've partnered with Expway, the world leader in mobile broadcast Electronic Service Guide, and Igolgi, encodscoding experts, to develop a fully integrated turnkey mobile broad- cast system. The system allows broad- casters to quickly add Mobile DTV to their existing on-air signal. One feature of our turnkey system is it's fully inte- grated with PSIP Pro, which allows users to manage programs schedules for both the on-air and Mobile DTV from a single interface. Options include an exciter and low power amplifier, making this system perfect for 'White Space' broadcasting for small venue events like arenas and stadiums. BSD: What trends do you see? CK: Streaming media. Broadcasters are pushing more content over IP networks. We saw this trend and redesigned our products to include transport stream over IP interfaces [TSoIP]. One feature that sets us apart from our competitors is our ability to pass or convert ATSC Mobile DTV transport streams without affecting the Mobile DTV data. Our transport stream products are ATSC A/153 Mobile DTV Ready. A configurable parameter allows these units to lock to the incoming transport stream preventing insertion or removal of null packets. A problem which breaks Mobile DTV, described in a recent TV Technology article titled 'HPA 2013: Fox's Mobile DTV Update.' Our TSC-6000 was verified at DTV Innovations ( Cont'd. from p. 1) FOX to work extremely well in the Mobile DTV environment. BSD: What new this year? CK: This year, we're introducing the CX-4 and CX-5 Transport Stream Converters. We've had request for trans- port stream converters with multiple I/O. Our CX-4 and CX-5 will convert four independent transport streams between. The CX-4 converts TSoIP and ASI and the CX-5 converts TSoIP and 310M. BSD: To what do you attribute your com- pany's success? CK: Two things. First, our customer service is second to none. When you call, someone answers the phone. A big per- centage of the time problems reside in a piece of equipment up or down stream of our unit. In these cases, our technical staff walks the customer through a debug process to illustrate this fact so they can contact the appropriate party. If it is our problem, generally it's resolved within a few minutes. Second, the strength and agility of our engineering team. We frequently take product feature requests from our cus- tomers, or if a customer finds a bug, our engineering team can turn it around quickly. If a desired feature is mar- ketable, we'll implement it. BSD: How can our readers find out more information about your products? CK: Contact Chris Knechtel at cknech- tel@dtvinnovations.com. If attending NAB 2014, stop by our booth #SU, and we'll be more than happy to show you our products. Our product development efforts are no exception, and thus we too are continual- ly evolving to improve efficiencies where it makes sense, both for us as a vendor as well as for our clients. One trending area that we have been a collaborator on is working with our clients to establish shared operational workflow environments. Our system manages and supports the environment whereby enabling each station that is a part of it to capitalize on consolidated and centralized workflows as a means to dramatically reduce operating expenses. BSD: What's new with your product, ProTrack? CM: Our newest software release is the start of a major upgrade for our entire product portfolio. By updating our core engine and database capabilities, we have made ProTrack more flexible, efficient and scalable for the future. Although most of this work is behind the scenes, the benefits for the future will prove very valuable to both our clients and us as a forward-thinking software developer. Our next release, rolling out later this year, will focus on a more intuitive and customizable interface which will allow our customers the ability to easily navigate throughout the ProTrack sys- tem. The enhanced database engines will enable deeper integrations and in turn streamline workflows. I know efficiency and streamlining tend to be two of the hottest buzz words for today's technolo- Myers ( Cont'd. from p. 1) gy vendors, but it is exactly what our sys- tem delivers – a streamlined workflow that delivers efficiency. Our system pro- vides content management, traffic and scheduling, sales management and more; thus it serves as a primary manager of the workflow and especially the content behind it. It is imperative that our ProTrack system stay ahead to manage and work with multiple systems across the operational workflow. BSD: How does Myers differentiate itself in the marketplace? CM: As trusted partner and vendor, we work to deliver a high value proposition for our clients – we help them grow rev- enues, reduce costs and improve work- flow operations. We work closely with each client to implement a system that meets their needs. One of our major strengths is the influence on the entire broadcast chain from acquisition to rec- onciliation to billing. We also assist in transitioning them from a legacy system or another vendor by using a Dedicated Transition Professional [DTP] to work with them one-on-one during the transi- tion. After the installation is complete, we provide 24/7 support to all of our customers. Our support is not out- sourced and is handled by our in-house staff based out of our office in Northampton, Mass. Our first model was a 5.6" field monitor, and ever since we have been try- ing to expand in all directions. From the beginning, we were interested in new types of video processing. We were always thinking of ways to improve on old technology and that's what we are still doing. BSD: What was it that sparked your interest in broadcasting? MB: Personally I love all things video, and broadcasting was the best way for me to make this interest my career. BSD: What do you believe made Boland so successful early on? MB: Attention to detail and to customer needs. We like to look at it from the point of view of the user so that we can take into account what people in the field actually need. BSD: What new products are you bring- ing to the show? MB: We have three new lines premier- ing, plus a few extra special bonuses: BVB, PVB and LVB, and brand new OLED and 4K models. These lines basi- cally give you a great value to cost ratio, Boland ( Cont'd. from p. 1) without sacrificing any bit of quality. BSD: Can you tell me more about Boland's new lines? MB: Of course. The BVB is the highest performing, most feature rich series. It is equipped with REC 709 and 601, plus EBU and DCinema color standards, dual screen, on-screen wave form, vector monitoring, audio time code, UMD and closed captioning. We then have the more price sensitive LVB monitors which have 3G SDI and will handle any frame rate you throw at them. The PVB Series costs a good deal less than that of the BVB, yet retains 90 percent of the BVB Series fea- tures. Our brand new OLED monitors feature everything the BVB series does, but with the stunning OLED imagery. This comes all at an outstanding price point. Ergonomically perfect, the 4K series provides the industry with 31.5" monitoring for all production and trans- mission needs. BSD: What makes Boland unique? MB: We have the best customer service available, bar none. Technical expertise is key, but customer service is always paramount. That's what our customers have come to expect from an American company. For more information, visit Boland at booth #SL4905 or go online to www.bolandcom.com.
