Jump N' G O ( Cont'd. from p. 1) WINSTED RELEASES WELS 4 DESIGN TOOL Winsted Corporation is pleased to announce the release of Winsted Equipment Layout Software (WELS) version 4. With a completely redesigned user interface and faster graphics engine, WELS 4 makes creat- ing console designs and control room layouts using Winsted products faster and easier than ever before. WELS 4 is available for immediate download at www.winsted.com/WELS. WELS 4 is a standalone program that provides full 3D design capabili- ties, comprehensive parts lists, auto- matic dimensioning, the ability to cre- ate specification sheets, and can export AutoCAD DWG files for 2D and 3D application. Winsted's new EnVision command console product line is available for use in WELS 4. Work surface and side panel texture options have also been expanded in this version of the popular design software. Users can also add new images to monitor screens to further enhance designs. WELS 4 is a free console design program that can be used out of the box – no training is required and there's no need to purchase additional CAD pro- grams or tools. Winsted catalogs are avail- able in print or PDF format by calling 800-447-2257 or email- ing info@winsted.com. Log on to www.winsted.com/quote for a free online technical furniture quote. Winsted's equipment lay- out software (WELS) is available for free at: www.winsted.com/WELS. It took numerous revisions and design changes to get the VERSA desk per- Creative Dimensions ( Cont'd. from p. 1) fect, but the team at Creative Dimensions now has a product that it is absolutely proud of and that has been used by major networks. Besides being lightweight and portable, the VERSA Broadcast Desk is reconfigurable. This allows it to accom- modate one to four people. With a mod- ular configuration, the VERSA Broadcast Desk changes quickly and easily, with minimal set-up time. The entire four person construction consists of only 13 pieces and can be assembled in under 15 minutes. Graphics were another major con- cern. Creative Dimensions has given consumers two options: laminated pan- els or one-piece seamless fabric prints. The use of laminated panels provides the benefit of area customization. Each panel can house a different graphic, depending on the needs of the user. On the other hand, the use of a fabric print gives the VERSA Broadcast Desk a sleek and elegant look, hiding any signs of assembly. The VERSA Broadcast Desk is conveniently stored in specialized cases. These pack and unpack easily and contain one modular section each. All four cases weigh less than 250 pounds, making shipping easy and affordable. Creative Dimensions also offers rolling crates that can house stools for set talent, ensuring your investments are organized and safe on-the-go. Creative Dimensions has truly creat- ed the perfect portable broadcast desk. For more information, visit www.go withcd.com or stop by booth #C6043. POLAR AND BLUETOOTH SMART TAKE NEXT STEP IN WEARABLE TECH Recent technological advances, especially the rise of the smart phone, have led to sig- nificant growth in the popularity of "wear- able devices." For Polar, the leader in heart rate monitoring and fitness assessment technologies, this trend has enabled thou- sands of new customers to experience the benefit of heart rate training in a new way. The H7 greatly expands the possibil- ities of heart rate tracking, helping users exercise at the desired intensity to get the exact training effect they're looking for, thanks to the open standard of Bluetooth Smart. With just a smart phone and the H7 chest transmitter, anyone can get all the motivating benefits that were previ- ously only available when used with a wrist-based heart rate monitor. The H7 also communicates wirelessly with car- dio equipment found in many gyms. Whether it's fitness watches, activity trackers or do-it-all glasses, the wearable technology industry continues to grow. Wearable technology will continue to improve our daily lives, especially as it relates to our fitness and health. CINOVA CRUNCH PICKS UP WHERE VIDEO ENCODING ENDS Compression is a given in modern video distribution. Whether the destination is a TV, PC, tablet or phone, the bandwidth between the playout server and the view- er's device is a precious commodity. The trick is finding a balance between squeezing the video as much as possible and providing viewers with a high quali- ty experience in terms of visual quality and smooth playback. Yet video encoders have a signifi- cant limitation. Their role is to create streams at fixed bitrates. This approach is not wrong – fixed bitrates are vital to an efficient workflow – but it means that even the best encoded video retains vary- ing amounts of visually extraneous infor- mation that demands storage, consumes bandwidth and must be buffered by the viewing device. Even using so-called adaptive bitrate techniques (ABR), the encoder is actually still creating a tiered set of fixed bitrate streams. The results are sub-optimal streams in which either the bitrate is higher than what is needed for the quality being delivered or the quality is higher than what is useful at a given bitrate. That's where Cinova CRUNCH Stream Optimizer software comes into play. CRUNCH automatically finds and removes that visually extraneous data in every stream and in real-time. Unlike the time and resource-intensive rip-and-replace of changing encoding solutions, the lightweight CRUNCH install takes just a few hours and goes in downstream of any existing encod- ing environment, including MPEG- 4/AVC and HEVC/H.265. How big a deal is that extra data? CRUNCH saves anywhere from a valu- able 20 percent in a very conservative, no-compromise accepted 1080p cinemat- ic-quality stream to a stunning 50 percent in an aggressive mobile distribution scheme where reliability over uncertain bandwidth is a top concern. Cinova has developed patented techniques called Perception Optimized Processing, or POP. These techniques perform on-the-fly visual analysis of every content macro-block, then apply exclusive transformation algorithms to eliminate visually redundant informa- tion that is unimportant to the human eye. That last point is important because it means that CRUNCH reduces the size of the stream without compromising visual quality. CRUNCH ushers in a new class of product called Stream Optimizers that offer content providers important benefits. Just going by the numbers, there are the obvious savings in terms of bandwidth usage and reduced storage. One more important benefit for providers using ABR is that CRUNCH means they not only can reduce the bitrates of their streams, but they actually need to encode fewer streams to achieve their targets. This reduces their reliance on resource-inten- sive or non-real-time encoding elements. Look a bit deeper, though, and it becomes apparent that CRUNCH addresses the more important metric of viewer satisfaction. Faster downloads, reduced pressure on expensive mobile data plans, less re-buffering and stutter- ing during playback, and higher average visual quality are powerful responses to the chief concerns of consumers.
