Ki t c h e n wa re N e ws & H o u s e wa re s Re vi e w S h o w D a i l y 7 9 S a t u rd a y, M a rc h 1 5 , 2 0 1 4 CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF KITCHEN INNOVATION By Dennis Leavitt, General Manager, L'Chef LLC A company can grow old without aging, since entrepreneurial action rejuvenates. BOSCH was established in 1886, under the enduring ideal of its founder, Robert Bosch, who said, "I have always acted according to the principle that I would rather lose money than trust. The integrity of my promises, the belief in the value of my products and in my word of honor have always had a higher priority for me than a transitory profit." Offering customers products of the highest quality continues to be the BOSCH way. This commitment can be seen when closely examining the BOSCH lineup of Kitchen Machines. Every detail of the MUM Series mixers – the Universal Plus, the Compact and the new Styline – is carefully scrutinized to ensure perfect performance. 2014 commemorates the 40th anniversary of BOSCH Kitchen Machines being sold in North America. BOSCH mixer traditions, reliability and engineering genius have endured for four decades. New models, especially the Styline, have added innovation, modern styling and exciting enhancements. "Unlimited Possibilities" continues to best describe what opportunities await consumers who choose BOSCH mixers over the competition. However impressive our history may be, we must not be content to just celebrate it. We must look for improvement as a matter of course. As the exclusive agent of BOSCH Kitchen Machines in North America, we take our commitment to BOSCH quality very seriously. If you are unfamiliar with the BOSCH Kitchen Machine lineup, we invite you to stop by our booth and see the BOSCH difference. Take one for a test drive. Let us show- case its ability to handle every culinary task. Come explore why so many people enthusiastically say, "I love my BOSCH," and come feel the "buzz" of our new models and accessories. By the way, just because we cannot just be content to celebrate our history – there will be a pretty good 40th Anniversary celebration going on at our booth. Come check it out. It is also worth noting that we are one of 2014's Innovation Awards Finalists. We really want you to see how impressive our new and patented product lineup looks. KNSD: Tell our readers about Neato Robotics. GM: Neato Robotics is a Silicon Valley company, born of a Stanford University entrepreneurial competition and based on the core belief that it is possible to create robots smart enough to perform house- hold chores as intelligently and efficient- ly as a human. At Neato, we're working to bring that vision into reality, making smart robot vacuums that let customers spend less time vacuuming, enjoy a cleaner home and have more time to do other things. We're continuing to innovate in the home robot space, working to create products that are smarter, more powerful and more efficient than anything previ- ously seen on the market. KNSD: What's unique about Neato home robot vacuums? GM: Plenty. Neato robot vacuums stand apart from competitors both in their autonomous navigation and in their cleaning ability. Neato robots use SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology – the same tech- nology used by the Google self-driving car – and include a proprietary scanning laser rangefinder. This is a milestone achievement. Rangefinders alone are typically thousands of dollars, but Neato has brought this technology to a con- sumer product that maintains an MSRP of $379 to $549. This innovation enables Neato robots to create detailed and accurate maps of their environment and vacuum in logical, straight lines, instead of bumping around a room. It knows to avoid furni- ture and stairs and can easily move into multiple rooms. In addition, the orderly and direc- tional navigation made possible by the SLAM maps allowed us to develop our unique D shape where the brush can be positioned at the front and across the full width of the robot front. In addition, it allows it to fol- low walls with the regular parallel motion of the robot, therefore insur- ing a much better motion and cover- age. The square front design also has a significant advantage over round robots that are not able to approach corners and walls the way we do. Other floor cleaners rely primarily on bristle brush sweepers which are prone to clogging and are tedious to maintain. By contrast, Neato robots are true vacuum cleaners. They use a high-speed centrifugal impeller, which is an order of magnitude more powerful than the competition. KNSD: Neato has a new product that's a finalist in the 2014 IH+HS Innovation Awards. Tell our readers about that product. GM: We're announcing Neato's newest family of home robot vacuums – called the Neato Botvac™ Robot Vacuums – here at the Housewares show. This is a beautiful new family of vacuums that are the smartest, most powerful robot vacu- ums available, with an increased capacity for picking up even more dust, debris, pet hair and allergens. That's especially important to people who have pets or have con- cerns about allergens in their homes. The Botvac series fea- tures a new industrial design – clean white with colorful accents – and joins our very popular XV family, giving customers a choice in capabilities and prices. KNSD: What is the market outlook for robot vacuums? GM: It's very good. Robots are the fastest growing category in the floor care sector. Currently, over 15 percent of all vacuums sold in the $200-plus category are robot vacuums. The forecast is for this to continue at an annual growth rate of over 30 percent. We're extremely opti- mistic about the future growth of home robots and of Neato Robotics. Visit Neato Robotics at booth L11161.
