NATURALLY HEALTHY www.gourmetnews.com n MARCH 2014 n GOURMET NEWS N H 2 8 An Authentic Line of Irish Baking Mixes Milled in Belfast Take a walk down the baking aisle, and the first thing you'll notice is the huge selection of mixes that are available. What the baking mix category lacks is a truly authentic line of Irish baking mixes – that is, until now. Part- nering with National Importers US Inc. for its U.S. sales, marketing and distribution, Neill's is thrilled to launch a brand more fa- mous in Ireland than Guinness (well, maybe only second to Guinness) – Neill's Irish Bak- ing Mixes. Neill's Irish Baking Mixes have been milled and packed in the heart of Belfast's city center for the past 150 years, since James Neill began milling during the Irish Potato Famine in 1845. Neill's knows flour! Neill's master baker has developed five de- licious mixes that will bring a taste of Ireland to the ovens of the American consumer. Neill's is proud to launch Irish Brown Bread, Irish Chia & Sunflower bread, Irish Raisin Soda Bread, Irish Buttermilk Raisin Scones and Irish Oat & Raisin Cookie mix into the market. "People are pinched for time but don't nec- essarily want to give up the splendor that from-scratch baking offers," said Barbara Allen, Vice President of Market Development at National Im- porters. "Neill's baking mixes are truly au- thentic, great-tasting and easy to use products that are all-natural and free from GMOs." Depending on the specific recipe, only milk, an egg or softened but- ter is needed to have a fresh- baked loaf or batch of cookies or scones. One package of mix prepares one loaf or 7 to 11 scones or cookies. Simplicity, authenticity and taste are at the heart of Neill's core values, and that's evident after you have a taste of this remarkable product. For additional information on how to order or to sample this product for yourself, visit National Importers US Inc. at booth #8314 or check out www.neillsmillusa.com. NH: Tell our readers about your company. What's your main line of business? WO: Fall River Wild Rice is a grower- owned cooperative located in the rural mountains of Northeastern California. It is an area well suited for growing wild rice. We supply wild rice to the retail and foodservice markets. NH: What is it that separates you from the competition and makes your company unique? WO: We are a small company from 'small town America.' With that comes a great de- sire to be customer service oriented – which we fulfill wholeheartedly. When you call our company, you're not calling a call center. Nine times out of 10 you'll be talking to me and I'll personally handle any situation – I love talking to all callers! NH: What about products? WO: Though we're small, we're also inno- vative. In my mind, our greatest achievement and contribution to the industry to date is starting the Fully Cooked rice products. Wild rice requires a long cook time – around an hour. The solution was Fully Cooked Wild Rice in a retort, flexible package. This not only earned us awards, but more im- portantly gives us the greater satisfaction of helping con- sumers have one of the world's healthiest grains at their fingertips. Because it's more accessible and easier to prepare, more people are able to live a healthier lifestyle by utilizing wild rice in this fully cooked format. NH: What particular product will you be showcasing at the Natural Products Expo? WO: We'll be displaying all of our products. What we're especially excited to show is a new product: Fall River Wild Rice Multigrain tortilla chips! What's great about these chips is that they taste great and capture the whole- some essence of wild rice – they are a healthier snack alternative. They come in two outstanding flavors: Pico de Gallo, and my personal fa- vorite – Sweet and Sour Wasabi. NH: What do you hope to get out of the show? WO: We love attending this show – it's such a great atmosphere! We hope we can reach more people with our products. Wild rice is a grain with tremendous health benefits. We hope we can help more people discover this and take advantage of our unique products. If we've done that, then we've been successful! Rae's Muffins: A Healthy, Fun Snack From watching her parents open and run a successful business at a young age, Raeleen Yoon was given an entrepreneurial seed. Whatever the source, in 2009 she discovered her mission. She and her son were diagnosed with a dairy allergy, and although she searched far and wide, she didn't find any- thing that really tickled their taste buds. With the help of two little ones, she set out to cre- ate delicious, nutritious food for those with food allergies. And so in 2013, RaeFoods was born. Her daughter's first grade classmates were some of the first willing guinea pigs to taste- test her veggie and flaxseed filled muffins. When they clamored for more even though they had been expecting cupcakes, she knew she had a hit. 4 Muffins are made with all-natural ingredi- ents and are dairy-, soy-, egg- and peanut-free. They are suitable for all ages. Young or old, Rae's Muffins bring out the kid in all of us. The muffins come in five different fla- vors. Each comes in a vibrantly colored striped box containing four muffins. Rae's mission was to make the food deli- cious and the packaging fun. "I wanted them to be unique, so I came up with personalities for each flavor." said Yoon. With names like Chocochamp, Coco-ono, Gorillanana, Greenosaurus and Mr. Rabbit, there is a variety for everyone: Chocochamp – for those who want super powers (chocolate, zucchini, flaxseeds); Mr. Rabbit – nibble on this and embrace your inner bunny (carrot, apple- sauce, flaxseeds); Gorillanana – one bite will make you go bananas! (bananas, kale, flaxseeds); Coco-ono – befriend your taste buds (coconut, cauliflower, flaxseeds); Greenosaurus – for those who are feeling reptilian (kale, cauliflowers, pineapple, flaxseeds). The muffins can be kept in the refrigerator for two weeks and frozen for a year. They are vegan, certified kosher, and peanut- and soy-free. Each muffin is unique, moist and tasty. Whoever would have thought vegeta- bles can taste this good? Rae's new debut will be allergen- free crackers. The crackers will come in three different flavors: cheese, pizza and herb. They will be very allergy friendly – free of gluten, soy, dairy, eggs and nuts. Keep an eye out for them this spring! Try Rae's muffins in booth #8403 at Nat- ural Products Expo West. "There are so many great things about these delicious muffins that I have a feeling they will be recognized soon in every gro- cery store….they are a must have!" – The Italian Vegan For more information, visit www .RaeFoods.com, call 617-510-9876, email rae@raefoods.com or stop by booth #8403 at Natural Products Expo West.
