An interview with D. Christopher Howe, Principal Design Strategist, designiterative HDSD: What is designiterative? DCH: We are a boutique interior branding and retail communication agency that also happens to be one of the largest manufacturers of retail fixtures in the country. Our Northeast design studio has more than 40 years of collective experience designing and developing interior brand experiences for service retailers, while our Minneapolis manufacturing and distribution center has been rolling out fixture pro- grams for some of the largest product retailers for more than 30 years. HDSD: What does designiterative mean? DESIGNITERATIVE CREATES REPEATED SUCCESS Martin Brattrud's NeoCon 2013 introduction, The Fold Collection, is designed by Brian Graham. Inspired by the simple act of trans- forming the two dimensional into three dimensional form, Fold is designed to create a strong visual presence in the modern environment. Initially conceived by the designer from one piece of paper, the composition is derived from a series of thin planes that come together to form a cradle that holds soft cushions within. The bent, angular metal base reinforces this idea of sculptural transformation. The Fold Collection was designed to address the needs of the contract, residential and hospitality markets. The collection is comprised of lounge, guest, dining and bar versions. The seating can be augmented with side tables to create a variety of solutions to support and enhance the built environment. The Fold Collection seating and tables are Phillip Atwood, Director of Marketing for EFI, stopped by Hospitality & Design Show Daily to talk about a product EFI is presenting to the market at NeoCon. HDSD: Well, let's get right to it. Tell us about your new product presentation. PA: Our newest product release for the 2013 NeoCon show is called SoftEtch. SoftEtch is an etched glass that is not only eco-friendly, but has a non-reflective surface leaving no glare. Cleaning is much easier with this prod- uct than typical etched glass because it resists stains leav- ing no fingerprints and is also smudge-proof. In addition to the attributes we have discussed, one of the most desir- able characteristics of the SoftEtch product is the feel. We invite you to stop by the booth and experience An interview with Justin Moorehead, Marketing Coordinator, Light Corporation. HDSD: Tell our readers about your company. What's your main line of business? JM: Light Corporation has been in the office lighting business for more than 26 years. We are located in beau- tiful Grand Haven, Mich. on the west coast of Lake Michigan. We started producing fluorescent under-cabi- net task lighting, and then quickly morphed into linear LED task lighting and personal LED desktop task light- ing. In conjunction with our line of office products, Light Corp. also manufactures high-bay fluorescent and LED lighting, as well as our patented Kanepi Innovations Wireless Controls for optimizing/customiz- ing energy efficiency in large open high bay spaces. By Kyle Bullock, President of Preferred Finishing, Inc. For the first time in more than 20 years, the upholstered furniture industry's flammability regulations may be changing. The Consumer Product Safety Commission hosted a public meeting on April 25, 2013 to discuss upholstered furniture fire safety technologies. Experts on the panel discussed a range of technologies to address furniture related fire deaths. Other panelist voiced concerns over the necessity of regulatory changes and the potential negative effects on the industry. Presentations were made by experts at NIST and the CPSC indicating the need for both a smoldering (ciga- rette) ignition source and an open flame requirement. This pertains to both residential and commercial uphol- stered furniture.
