HOUSESWARES SHOW MARCH 2014 n www.kitchenwarenews.com 2 4 The innovative CLASSIC 9" Double Serrated Bread Knife from WÜSTHOF won two 2014 Housewares Design Awards: "Best in Category" for Cutlery, and "Bronze" for the "Best of the Best." Presented by Homeworld Business, the Awards gala and ceremony was held in New York City on February 4. Ideal for slicing through crusty breads, the patent-pending CLASSIC 9" Double Serrated Bread Knife (model 4152/23) also slices through fruits and vegetables with ease. Additional serrations provide multiple benefits and advantages over standard bread knives, beginning with a markedly sharper blade to minimize crumbs when slicing bread. The knife's advanced craftsmanship also ensures that the interior serrations never hit cutting surfaces, leaving the blade sharper longer. An additional benefit to this blade style is its ability to pierce fruit and vegetables with tough skins, such as melons and tomatoes, and cleanly slice through delicate foods, such as angel food cake. Extraordinarily sharp serrated teeth allow for increased control and ability to create paper-thin slices of a variety of ingredients. The award-winning CLASSIC 9" Double Serrated Bread Knife is part of WÜSTHOF 's best selling collection of full-tang knives, which are precision-forged from a single piece of an exclusive high- carbon, stain-resistant alloy. CLASSIC knives are engineered to enhance edge- retention and to facilitate re-sharpening. The steel used features a hardness that is approximately 58 on the Rockwell hardness scale. Completely buffed and polished by hand, the CLASSIC knife blade is seamlessly attached to highly durable black handles with triple rivets for a totally hygienic and secure fit. CLASSIC knives feature a newer handle design made of a highly durable synthetic material – Polyoxymethylene (POM) – which has a tighter molecular structure to resist fading and discoloration. Additionally, the shape of the handle is more rounded for a comfortable and sure grip. CLASSIC handles also include a WÜSTHOF patented feature designed to eliminate the possibility of rusting or pitting of the rivets or the knife's tang, which could occur from contact with impurities, high humidity, or salt water. CLASSIC knives feature the company's signature bolster/finger guard at the base of the blade, which accounts for the cutlery's heft, and solid, balanced feel. All WÜSTHOF knives are fully guaranteed to be free of defects in craftsmanship. CLASSIC knives are crafted in Solingen, Germany — WÜSTHOF-TRIDENT 's manufacturing and headquarters base since the company's founding 200 years ago. The U.S. subsidiary, WÜSTHOF-TRIDENT OF AMERICA, INC. is located in Norwalk, Connecticut. WÜSTHOF Bread Knife Wins Pair of Design Awards WALL LENK CORP. CELEBRATES 150TH ANNIVERSARY The year was 1864. Abraham Lincoln was president, Nevada was admitted as the 36th state, and Wall Lenk Corporation was founded in Pittsburg, Penn. This year, Wall Lenk celebrates 150 years as a leading manufacturer and supplier of USA-made soldering tools. Today, Wall Lenk Corporation continues the tradition of Made in the USA. In fact, 80 percent of Wall Lenk's products are still proudly manufactured by American workers in Kinston, N.C. "In the past, craftsmen would use our tools to proudly brand their names on wooden furniture frames to mark the pieces they had made," says Paul Ricciarelli, the fifth President of Wall Lenk. "Today our products are sold for all types of uses and can be found in many different channels of distribution." This year, the company's products line will be joined by an exceptionally hot new entry called the mini Torch. What makes it hot is the price point. For the first time, consumers will be able to own a fashionable, refillable butane torch for under $20. The attractive display features five colors, including Tangerine, Blueberry, Strawberry, Kiwi and Pineapple. The mini Torch uses a Piezo-ignition system and the jet-blue flame that Wall Lenk Butane products are known for. See the mini Torches at the 2014 Housewares Show and celebrate Wall Lenk's 150th anniversary at booth S148 at the International Home + Housewares Show.
