With uncompromising emphasis on design, the company unveiled the new Corkcicle.ONE for the ultimate wine lover. Made of stainless steel, Corkcicle.ONE offers more than just keeping wine at the proper tempera- ture; it is also a wine aerator and fea- tures a pour-through spout so you can pour directly from the bottle to the glass without removing the product. Aerating wine enhances the wine's flavor profile, ensuring each sip is delivered to its fullest body. Couple this with the Corkcicle's ability to keep wine at its ideal cellar temperature and the company delivers another wine lover's must-have product. "Simplifying the number of acces- sories you must keep on-hand to get all these benefits is a huge win for con- sumers, and no product on the market is bringing together the concepts of wine temperature maintenance and combining it with wine aerating," said Ben Hewitt, Corkcicle Partner. "It's great!" This new product from Corkcicle Corkcicle (Con't. from p. 1) grows the brand to a new market of buyers interested in an elegant gift at a slightly higher price point and contains remarkable features that are sure to "wow" any wine connoisseur. In addition to Corkcicle.ONE, the company also announced its launch into the beer industry. Created from customer demand, Corkcicle has craft- ed a solution for beer lovers that keeps beer ice cold to the last sip. Made of stainless steel and stored in the freezer, Chillsner is as easy to use as the Corkcicle. Simply open a bottle of beer and drop Chillsner into the bottle to keep it chilled and drink. Chillsner features an opening for easy drinking and is designed to fit over the opening of an average beer bottle. Beer stays icy cold from the first sip until the last! Chillsner comes in a package of two units. The new line of Corkcicle products can be seen at the Corkcicle's booth S3868. Learn more about Corkcicle at www.corkcicle.com. Director, Food Safety Product Certification, NSF International discuss- es some of the challenges facing the industry and how this new program is helping manufacturers get their products in a prime spot on store shelves. KNSD: What are some of the challenges that face the housewares industry in the next few years? SK: As manufacturers continue to inno- vate and create new designs, they also face the added challenge of demonstrat- ing that these new materials are safe for food contact and meet all applicable reg- ulatory and retailer requirements. Test protocols can vary from retailer to retail- er, so sometimes this can be like aiming at a moving target. Supply chain quality issues continue to pose challenges for manufacturers, who operate on tight schedules. Building quality into the prod- uct from the very beginning is crucial and we believe third-party product certifica- tion plays an important role in this process. Consumers are also increasingly concerned about the safety and quality of kitchenware and appliances. In an inde- pendent survey conducted on behalf of NSF International, 53 percent of safety- minded consumers said they were con- cerned about the quality and safety of kitchen appliances, and 58 percent were concerned about the safety of cookware materials and their coatings. Safety- minded consumers are defined as those between 25 and 54 years old and who qualify on at least three of the four crite- ria: 1) take dietary supplements, 2) con- sume bottled water, 3) read product labels and 4) use certification organiza- tions for product information. KNSD: How do you see NSF's HPC pro- gram helping retailers and manufacturers with these challenges? SK: The NSF Home Product Certification (HPC) Program takes the NSF International (Con't. from p. 1) guesswork out of the testing process by combining all regulatory and retailer requirements into a single certification program. This enables manufacturers to streamline various product specifications into one process, helping to assure prod- uct safety, while also increasing a prod- uct's speed to market and reducing over- all testing costs. The benefit is also passed to consumers, as the NSF Certified for Home Useā„¢ mark on certi- fied products allows shoppers to easily identify safer products that have been tested by an independent third-party pub- lic health organization. KNSD: Since the HPC program was launched last year, what have retailers and manufacturers been saying about the new program? SK: NSF's HPC program is based on, but separate from, the NSF's legacy in com- mercial foodservice equipment certifica- tion. Many state, county and city food codes in the U.S. mandate that commer- cial establishments use foodservice equipment that is certified to NSF com- mercial food equipment standards. Many companies were pleased that NSF had developed a testing and certification pro- gram that builds on this commercial expertise by helping to ensure the safety and quality of consumer products and appliances used in the home. Even when a kitchenware product meets all regulato- ry and retailer product requirements, there is tough competition for space on a retailer's shelves and many kitchenware manufacturers see the NSF HPC program as a major product differentiator.
