K i t c h e n w a r e N e w s & H o u s e w a r e s R e v i e w S h o w D a i l y M o n d a y, M a r c h 0 4 , 2 0 1 3 9 2 DS: We have an entire new line of cut- ting boards this year, something that has not been done before. We are intro- ducing a glue-less surface Bamboo Cutting Board Series. The boards are three-ply, cross laminated 100 percent earth friendly bamboo and they look great. They are perfect for natural products stores and gourmet specialty retailers. We are also introducing our first items in a line sure to wow. It includes tools needed to create an at home "farm to table" meal. KNSD: That sounds interesting; can you tell us more about this? DS: Certainly. We are really excited about this, and love the concept of at home growers using their herbs, spices, vegetables at home to create an organic home cooked meal. First we started with the stick tools including trowels, cultivators and transplanters all made with stainless steel and bam- boo handles of course. We also include a pruner and a snip, made of forged stainless steel, also including bamboo handles. Priced to sell, packaged to wow. KNSD: We can't wait to see it. I see how you distinguish yourself from your competition; please tell us more about 'Trees for Shade, Bamboo for Wilshire Industries (Con't. from p. 1) Boards?' DS: I'd love to and I'm glad you asked. Today's consumer is keenly aware of the impact their lifestyle choices have on the environment. We want to provide them with products that are sustainable and look great. Sustainability means more that saving trees of course, but by making the comment as simple as 'Trees for Shade, Bamboo for Boards,' we are telling consumers how easy it is to make an environmentally conscious decision on the products they pur- chase. KNSD: In the past you have offered visitors to the IH+HS a special promo- tion, anything this year? DS We are being very aggressive with pricing, freight discounts and dating. We would love to see all of our accounts, including those who are members of HTI and Gourmet Catalog to tell them more about the promotions we are running at the show. Please visit with us at booth S559. For more information, visit www.islandbamboo.com, call 949-492- 9921 or email info@wilshireindus- tries.com. BS: Wrap-N-Mat, Inc. is the innovator of the reusable food wrap industry. Back in 1997 my family of six planned a hiking trip in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. While packing lunch, we ran out of plastic sandwich bags so I improvised and grabbed a paper towel and masking tape. The concept worked great but the sandwiches were a bit dried out so I started cutting and sewing prototypes. While the kids were in school or napping, I tried lots of shapes, materials and linings. I found using a food safe plastic lining kept air out and the bread soft and moist over just using fabric alone. Ultimately the octagon shape worked best and provided a great placemat. No more worries of where they were going to place their sandwiches and cookies! Today the company is still a family based business and we still take every customer to heart. Our product line consists of the Wrap-N-MatĀ® Wrap and the Pouches that replace the use of plastic bags while opening flat to use as a placemat. KNSD: What is the nature of your dis- tribution? BS: Partnering with Ginsey Home Solutions, we have been able to reach retailers far and beyond our Colorado borders. The new designs and the com- pany's licensing with Nickelodeon and Sesame Street allow us to offer great prints including SpongeBob and Dora. Our Wraps and Pouches look great with the new prints and designs. Ginsey's expertise in marketing and distribution has propelled our products Wrap-N-Mat (Con't. from p. 1) to additional levels of sales and we're excited for 2013! KNSD: Who are your target end- users? BS: College students down to young children all enjoy the ease of going to school with a packed lunch. Working Americans, commuters, and nature lovers all enjoy packing a bit of home and saving money. We hear from our customers that our pouches even work great for carrying items such as small toys, make-up and jewelry. KNSD: To what do you attribute your company's success? BS: Our success is that we provide long lasting products and value our customers. Providing safe and sustain- able products has been both our busi- ness strategy and an ethical imperative at Wrap-N-Mat, Inc. As a pioneer in the industry, we value each customer and ensure that our standard in provid- ing the best customer service hasn't wavered in more than 14 years. KNSD: How can our readers find out more about your company? MC: This year we are introducing a new line of bed linen called Casual Home Line made exclusive with the Dri-SilkĀ® high performance fabric. KNSD: Tell us more about the special feature of the Dri-Silk fabric. MC: Dri-Silk is made with the similar material found in high-end athletic apparels. We start out with the same material and enhanced it to provide even more comfort in bed linen prod- ucts. It has all the special characteris- tics of high performance athletic apparels: moisture wicking, breatha- bility, ventilate excess heat and anti- odor. However, when you take into the consideration of comfort while sleep- ing on the fabric for eight or more hours, Dri-Silk is designed to do just that and much more. KNSD: How is Casual Home Linen different from traditional linen such as cotton? MC: Since we use exclusively the Dri- Silk fabric, all the Casual Home Linen products take on all the benefits of ath- letic apparel. For example, when a per- son sleeps in cotton sheets, it traps excess heat and moisture which can disturb a good night's sleep. With Casual Home line, it allows the air to ventilate thus moisture and heat can reach a better equilibrium with our body. This is just one of the many advantages of Casual Home Linen over the traditional linen. KNSD: What other advantages does Casual Home (Con't. from p. 1) Casual Home Linen have? MC: In term of appearances, the Casual Home Linen has elastic charac- ter therefore every fit is a perfect fit. Even if your mattress is slightly differ- ent in size, our linen will reconfigure itself to accommodate. It is wrinkle- free, so it always looks nice day in and day out. It has an upscale sophisticated look that appeals to just about every- one. On the healthy living side, the Casual Home Linen has built in anti- odor and anti-bacterial elements. Not only would it provide hours of com- fortable undisturbed sleep, it would provide a healthier environment for a person to sleep in. The silk like feel makes make it very comfortable to even the most sensitive skin. The Dri-Silk material is a durable fabric design for everyday use. It is wrinkle-free and machine washable. It is very easy to maintain and always look perfect without any ironing. KNSD: When will Casual Home Linen products be available in stores, and what is the approximate cost? MC: The International Home + Housewares Show is our initial launch of CHL in the U.S.A. We expect the product to reach several major retailers by middle of May. Suggested retail price for a 4-piece King set is $199 and 3-piece Twin set is $149. There will be many color choices to select from. One degree can make the difference between perfect doneness and over- or under-cooked. Why Circulation? Bains-Marie and other non-circulated baths heat unevenly, resulting in hot and cold spots. Consequently, cooking results cannot be guaranteed through those meth- ods. PolyScience has eliminated those problems by equipping all of our products with pumps to circulate the water, ensuring uniform temperatures. Why Cook in Water? Water conducts heat much more efficient- ly than steam or air, providing better tem- perature control. That thermal conductivity difference can be easily illustrated by warming both a water bath and an oven to an identical 145 degrees Fahrenheit/63 degrees Celcius. The oven feels comfort- able, while the water bath is painfully hot. Polyscience (Con't. from p. 4) Why Vacuum Packaging? The Sous Vide method relies on wrapping food in non-reactive plastic pouches to cook evenly. In most cases those pouches are vacuum sealed to provide optimal heat transfer and to keep them submerged in the water bath. Why PolyScience? Trust what the professionals trust. For 50 years, PolyScience has been building a core competency in consistent, precise and cost effective temperature control. Building on that foundation, PolyScience has become the "go-to" source for chefs seeking a wide array of precise technical solutions to their kitchen challenges. And the offering doesn't stop there. PolyScience also offers home solutions, allowing home cooks to replicate multi- course meals shown on top cooking shows or in up-scale restaurants.
