This summer, ARTĔL will reveal the results of such restless innovation with the launch of new Absolute versions of its popular MOD and POLKA DOTS motifs. Unlike the standard versions of these motifs, which involve the application of a single color to clear crystal that is later sandblasted off to create a textured pattern, the new Absolute versions have two applications of color. When the first layer is sandblasted off, the second layer remains visible, creating a subtle tone-on-tone effect reminiscent of patterned velvet. The final product is unlike any other glassware on the market today. MOD and POLKA DOTS are currently the only two motifs in ARTĔL. ARTĔL Glass www.artelglass.com of exhibitors in Artisan Resource™, a new GLM-managed tradeshow matching artisanal craft producers and production resources with U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers and wholesalers, which runs concurrently with NY NOW, August 19-21 2013, at the Passenger Ship Terminal's Pier 94. According to display curator, Ilene Shaw of Shaw + Co! Productions, "The trend we're seeing in eco-friendly products is the use of materials which have previously been overlooked. Makers are still using traditional recycled materials, but are now supplementing them with, for example, papers and other pulp-based materials made from new plant varieties." Select SustanAbility exhibit highlights will include: pencils and pencil holders by Acacia Creations made of fast-growing "jee" trees in Thailand; paper clip cork coasters and trivets by dinner-ware.com; 100 percent recycled felt pods for plants by flip & tumble, LLC; Merino wool felt placemats by Gräf & Lantz; 100 percent pure bees wax candles by GreenTree Home Candle; 100 percent cotton baby "Jammies" by Helene Laure; and a carry all bag made of reclaimed redwood, canvas cloth, steel piping by Wood Thumb. Ten finalists in each of these three categories will be featured during the month of July in an online voting gallery, www.giftshopmag .com/votegreen. Winners of the awards, which are sponsored by NY NOW and GREENRetailer, will be announced in advance of the August market and profiled in the Fall 2013 issue of GIF TSHOP magazine.
