Nominees for the Edison Awards were judged by more than 3,000 senior business executives and academics from across the nation whose votes acknowledged the Finalists' success in meeting the award criteria of Concept, Value, Delivery and Impact. The Panel included members of the Marketing Executives Networking Group, the American Association Advertising Agencies, the Chief Marketing Officer Council, the Design Management Institute, the American Productivity & Quality Center, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Association of Technology Management & Applied Engineering. Also on the Panel were hundreds of past Edison Award winners, marketing professionals, scientists, designers, engineers and academics. Award winners were announced on April 25, 2013, at the Edison Awards Annual Gala, held at the historic Navy Pier in Chicago. On-site for the award ceremony was Keurig co-founder, Richard Sweeney, along with members of the Keurig Vue engineering, research and development, beverage and marketing teams. The Edison Awards is a program conducted by Edison Universe, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to fostering future innovators. Celebrating 15 years of innovation in 2013, the Keurig single cup brewing system has revolutionized the way people consume their beverages both at home and at the office. The single cup technology behind the Keurig brand has disrupted consumer behavior and made quality coffee and other specialty beverages a staple option. In addition, Keurig was named coffee maker "Brand of the Year" in the 2012 and 2013 Harris Poll EquiTrend® Equity Studies. Red Dot, the internationally recognized awards organization and design institute based in Essen, Germany, has announced that the VIVA Scandinavia teapot has been awarded its product design award for 2013. Red Dot award winners were selected from 4,662 entrants by a panel of 37 renowned international design experts, according to Red Dot. "It is extremely gratifying to be recognized by Red Dot," said VIVA Scandinavia president Peng Lin. "We make a significant investment in research and design in order to offer consumers the finest, most attractive, and convenient home VIVA Scandinavia Teapot Wins Prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award products. To be honored by the prestigious Red Dot jury of design experts and educators is a wonderful achievement for our team." The awards ceremony will take place July 1 in Essen. Created by Danish designer Nina Brunn Færch-Jensen, the teapot debuted in the U.S. at the recent International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. Available in both white porcelain and thermal shock- resistant borosilicate glass, the teapot features a sleek conical shape and a stainless steel microfiber diffuser. Tea is placed into the diffuser which then fits firmly in the pot. Hot water is poured directly into the diffuser whose large size allows tea leaves to swirl freely, releasing truer flavor and aroma than conventional infusers.
