An interview with Melissa Lindsley, Marketing Director, American Galvanizers Association. SPDN: Tell our readers about your company. What exactly is hot-dip galvanizing? ML: The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) is a non-profit trade association serving the after-fabrication hot-dip galvanizing industry. For more than 150 years, hot-dip galvanizing has been utilized throughout the world for corrosion protection. Hot-dip galvanizing is the process of immersing fabricated steel in a bath of molten zinc, creating a series of abrasion-resistant inter- metallic layers. New technology and creative HOT-DIP GALVANIZING PROTECTS AND SUSTAINS STEEL More power. Less work. The next generation of solar. SolarDock's patented, light- weight solar module mounting sys- tem combines a high-tilt angle of up to 35 degrees with the only truly non-penetrating design. Certified by TÜV Rheinland and tested to the proposed UL 2703 standards, the SolarDock solution solves the greatest number of cli- mate and engineering challenges by maximizing annual kWh power production – 10-20 percent more kWh per year than low-angle flat mounting. SolarDock is dramat- ically increasing installation productivity; up to 40 per- cent more in one year than a typical mounting system. Installers and end-users get immediate and long- term cost savings through intelligent product design. By Steve Schwerd, Partner, VP of Facilities and Energy Engineering, KMB Design Group While the solar industry con- tinues to grow rapidly in the U.S. and abroad, only a small percentage of non-residential projects include PV installations. However, the potential for commercial, municipal and industrial building con- struction to incorporate renewable energy systems has never been greater. To date, the approach has been for the archi- tect/engineer on the design team to provide an allowance for the solar only, with an intent to follow the normal design-build approach using the same An interview with Andy Behr, Marketing Director, Hisco, Inc. SPDN: Tell our readers about your com- pany. What's your main line of business? AB: Hisco is a leading distributor of materials for the North American photo- voltaic manufacturing industry. We have more than 30 stocking locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Our vendor partners include proven brands like 3M, Loctite, Momentive Performance Materials, Hosiden, Alpha and many oth- ers. We also provide precision converting and die cut- ting services for applications like junction box gaskets and charge collection tapes. The Spi-Sun Simulator 5600SLP Blue is a next generation measure- ment system that provides superior measurement accuracy and repeata- bility for conventional and advanced high efficiency PV module power measurements. The system delivers Class A+ spectral/spatial/temporal performance in combination with a measurement repeata- bility of ≤ 0.15 percent. By adding light in the 300nm- 400nm low end of the light spectrum, the 5600SLP Blue delivers Class A+ 300nm – 1100nm performance which supports the ability to get every possible watt from the power measurement of all types of crystalline and thin film modules. The extended 300nm-1100nm spectrum truly mimics the sun and contains 300nm-400nm Continued on Page 18 Continued on Page 18 Continued on Page 21 SOLARDOCK'S MOUNTING SYSTEM SOLVES CLIMATE, ENGINEERING CHALLENGES GREATER OPPORTUNITIES EXIST FOR SOLAR IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION SPIRE INTRODUCES SPI-SUN SIMULATOR 5600SLP BLUE HISCO: NORTH AMERICA'S SOURCE FOR MISSION-CRITICAL MATERIALS Continued on Page 21 Continued on Page 21 O s e r C o m m u n i c a t i o n s G r o u p C h i c a g o T h u r s d a y, O c t o b e r 2 4 , 2 0 1 3 Quanta Power Generation, Inc., (QPG) was selected by Con Edison Development (CED) to engineer, procure and construct the White River and Corcoran Photovoltaic (PV) Facilities totaling approximately 40 megawatts (MWAC), in Kings and Tulare Counties, Calif. QPG, a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR, S&P 500), was established with a core focus of providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services to the utility-scale power generation industry. Since its formation, QPG has established itself as a leading provider of utility-scale PV solutions with more than 300 MWDC of generation capacity complet- ed or currently under construction.
