S o l a r P o w e r D a i l y N e w s W e d n e s d a y, J u l y 1 0 , 2 0 1 3 6 SEAWARD'S ADVANCED IRRADIANCE METERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT A new range of multifunction irradiance meters enables installers to carry out comprehensive solar PV site surveys and installation testing quickly and easily. The new Solar Survey meters from Seaward Solar combine high perform- ance irradiance measurement with a host of other features. Both the Solar Survey 100 and 200R instruments incorporate a precision PV cell sensor for the highly accurate irradi- ance measurement, displaying results in either Wm-2 or BTU/hr-ft2 and making them ideal for solar PV and solar thermal site surveys, as well as installation and performance testing. Uniquely, the new multi function units also incorporate a digital compass, a digital tilt meter and a dual channel pre- cision thermometer. These special features enable the user to quickly identify the location where maximum levels of solar power can be collected and accurately measure irradi- ance, roof pitch, orientation and both ambient air and PV module temperature. Both the 100 and 200R incorporate a display hold feature to allow readings to be captured in difficult locations. The Solar Survey 200R has the added benefit of a large internal memory and USB interface for the down- loading of results to a PC. These additional fea- tures in the 200R form part of a special wireless Solarlink capability pro- viding wireless connectivity with the Seaward Solar PV150 electrical installa- tion tester. This enables real-time irradi- ance to be displayed and measured at the same time as electrical testing is being undertaken. This means that irradiance, module and ambient temperature can be recorded in real time within the PV150 as the electrical tests are conducted. The bat- tery-powered, rugged Solar Survey irradi- ance meters are an indispensa- ble tool for all those involved in solar installation work by enabling the opera- tor to rapidly identify the optimum loca- tion for harnessing the sun's energy. UNIQUE FILTERS DESIGNED BY OAI FOR APPLICATION SPECIFIC SOLAR SIMULATORS OAI, a leader in solar simulation and I-V test, with over 40 years of optical design experience, has developed a new line of optical filters for its Class AAA Solar Simulators. Each filter is designed to match a specific cell type, such as Dye Sensitive (DSSC), Organic (OPV), Multijunction, High Efficiency, and Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV). "OAI has always worked with its customers to develop unique solutions to their optical problems," said Dr. Charles Turk, President of OAI. "These new filters are easily added to OAI's standard Class AAA solar Simulators, giving the user the most flexible and versatile test sys- tem," he added. OAI's Class AAA Solar Simulators include Advanced Uniform Beam Optics and come standard with Air Mass 1.5 Global filters. Other air mass filters are available as an option. OAI's application specific Solar Simulators can be upgraded to include constant power and constant intensity when the optical feedback circuitry is included. A variable power supply allows the beam inten- sity to be adjusted from 0 to 1.1 suns. All Solar Simulators are easily integrated with OAI's I-V test systems and its advanced I-V Rider Software, thus comprising the most com- plete application specific Solar Simulators in the industry. OAI has also expanded its manufac- turing facility to meet the increased demand for its application specific Solar Simulators. Additionally, OAI has installed a PV/Solar Test Lab in its San Jose, Calif. facility and offers this test facility to compa- nies to test the application specif- ic Solar Simulators or to develop performance data on their specif- ic cells. OAI offers its customers optical modeling, automation, and equipment to enable compa- nies to transition into production. OAI maintains its manufacturing and engineering in San Jose. PDM: MAKING STEEL EASILY ACCESSIBLE TO THE SOLAR INDUSTRY PDM Steel Service Centers, Inc. pro- vides a vast array of steel products as well as support structures and frames for the solar industry. Piers, pedestals, stands, piles, beams, channels, tubing, and pipe are just a small portion of the galvanized and non-galvanized products we carry. We also supply a wide variety of other products and shapes used in the fabrication of PV mounting systems. Through our vast network of sister com- panies within the Reliance Steel & Aluminum organization, we can supply roll formed materials and stainless and aluminum materials to your exact engi- neering specifications. With locations throughout the U.S., PDM has the resources to meet the solar industry's material needs. Service centers provide the essential services of manag- ing mill roll sched- ules, stocking mate- rial for quick responses to job needs in advance of mill shipments, material shipping and receiving, staging and logistics support, on time delivery in exact quantities, and financial vehicles, to helping a solar project start on time and stay on schedule. In addition to our vast product offering and full inventories, PDM also offers in-depth product knowledge and material consulting in project design. We want to ensure that our customers are provided the best materials that are cost effective with reduced lead times. We also adapt and respond to demanding produc- tion schedules with quality, on-time deliv- ery. PDM Steel has 10 locations throughout the western United States, but through our vast network of sister companies within Reliance Steel & Aluminum, we can serve virtually the entire US. This allows us to not only reach our customers, but to also provide them with the steel products they need when and where they need them, with our just in time delivery program. For more information, visit PDM Steel at booth 9347 or online at PDMSteel.com. BAJA'S SOLAR SUPPORT SYSTEM— DESIGNED FROM A CARPORT BUT ENGINEERED FOR THE SUN Baja Construction, the leader in highly specialized and engineered solar support structures has installed its Solar Support System™ at facilities generating, in aggregate of 35MWs of power. Baja will custom design, engineer, supply and install Solar Support Systems to support PV and secondarily, shade vehicles of all heights. PV is mounted directly to Baja's Solar Support System with a patent-pending connection that delivers minimal impact to the site, max- imum efficiencies for installation and the potential for additional revenue.
