As American Indian employees we have access to the Indian Health Service, tribally operated health programs, urban Indian health programs and private care providers. The NABI Foundation, a national 501 (c) (3) not-for- profit organization, in partnership with Ak-Chin Indian Community and Nike N7, is com- mitted to supporting Native American youth by imple- menting programs that encourage higher education, sports, health and wellness and community building. NABI's first event was the Native American Basketball Invitational to help secure college athletic scholarships for our talented high school-aged athletes. The event was created in 2003 by Mark West/VP Player Programs Phoenix Suns, GinaMarie Scarpa former Executive Director AC Green Youth Foundation and the late Scott Podleski. It quickly got the attention of Tex G. Hall, former President of NCIA and Ernie Stevens Jr. Chairman of NIGA.
