P r o d u c e S h o w D a i l y S a t u r d a y, O c t o b e r 1 9 , 2 0 1 3 4 Been waiting to hear exciting health food product news through the grapevine? If so, Crunchies ® – the leading producer of all-natural freeze-dried vegetable and fruit snacks in the country – has a tasty announcement: the addition this October of all-natural Red Grapes to its popular Grab-n-go fruit line. Delectable grapes, long a favorite of young and old alike, are now easily packed into even the fullest backpack, whether for school, play, sports or a hike. Sugar Snap Peas, Buttered Power Veggies and Herbed Spiced Power Veggies will also make their debut this October, joining Buttered Sweet Corn and BBQ Roasted Veggies, which were introduced to Crunchies' Grab-n-go fam- ily in June. Both Power Veggies feature flavorful blends of corn, edamame, peas and carrots seasoned with natural spices, flavorings and sea salt. With such a palate-pleasing variety sure to match every taste, consumers can now crunch all their favorite vegetables in single snacks every bit as healthy and conven- ient as they are delicious. Grab-n-go bags range from 1 ounce to 3.25 ounces. Like all Crunchies' fruit products, Red Grapes Grab-n-go is made in the U.S. through a unique freeze-drying process in which individually frozen grapes are placed in a refrigerated vacuum cham- ber that removes up to 97 percent of the moisture. This special process gives Crunchies their namesake crunchy texture and allows them to retain a high percentage of the nutritious enzymes that are invari- ably lost through traditional heat drying. Veggie Crunchies are not only incredibly wholesome, but are also rich in fiber, protein and isoflavones. Each delicious flavor contains relatively little fat while providing a nutritional burst of energy that's available anywhere, any- CRUNCHIES ADDS TO GRAB-N-GO LINE INTERCRATE PROVIDES QUALITY, SHELF LIFE FOR BLUEBERRIES As consumers get used to enjoying blue- berries year-round, the industry gears up to fulfill this demand. But there is always the question of how to give the customer the freshest, tastiest fruit with the best texture, at a good price. U.S. companies and their Mexican partners are successfully addressing this demand, trucking in fresh blueberries quickly, and in bulk. But 3,000 miles on the road is still a challenge, and the InterCrate 4.5 helps packers get blueber- ries to the repack operation in the best condition, and economically. How? One way is to choose a reusable plastic container designed to provide good ventilation, no crushing, smoothness and structural integrity. The difference starts in the field. As soon as the blueberries are picked and placed in the InterCrate 4.5, they are shedding heat and humidity through the more than 1,000 venti- lation holes. All these holes are smoothed to reduce mechanical damage. Swing bar stacking means damage from workers placing containers down incorrectly is eliminated. The height of the InterCrate 4.5 is perfect for blueberry quality. 15-18 lbs of fruit is just right to prevent crushing. If the fruit starts its journey well, it makes it easier to preserve that quality. Continued on Page 46 Continued on Page 51 Lee M.
