P r o d u c e S h o w D a i l y T h u r s d a y, M a y 1 6 , 2 0 1 3 4 What started in a small garage in 1995, A&B Packing Equipment has quickly become the industry leader in fresh pack and processing equipment. After several expansions in 2012, A&B Packing Equipment was relocated to its newly renovated 55,000 square foot building in Lawrence, Mich. The new facility has provided A&B Packing Equipment the room to accommodate 100 full-time employees. The newly ren- ovated building also allows A&B Packing Equipment the space for in- house production of all its equipment. This new facility enables A&B Packing Equipment to continue growing and meeting the demands of customers worldwide, from South America to China. A&B Packing E q u i p m e n t ' s Cherry Evolution packing machine is fast, gentle and accurate. Not only can it accurately pack clamshells ranging from 6 ounces to 4 pounds, but it rapidly packs 100 clamshells per minute. This system is also adjustable to pack wicket wired bags with a separate role in roll out attachment. As always, A&B Packing Equipment will remain small enough to know its customers by name, but large enough to supply its fresh pack and pro- cessing customers with the latest custom equipment. The company prides itself on having all the equipment manufactured in-house. The entire staff at A&B Packing Equipment in involved with every order, starting with the first phone call. The customer service follows the entire process from the initial floor plan layout and concept, to final completion and ship- ping. The service department has trained field techs to pro- vide on-site service for cus- tomers. A&B Packing Equipment is the "go-to" company for difficult product to be packed. The company is known as the problem solvers for their customers who have had no solution available for fresh pack in the past, and can help customers who pack anything from blueberries, tomatoes, zucchini, cherries and more. A&B PACKING EQUIPMENT'S CHERRY EVOLUTION PACKING MACHINE PACKS WITH SPEED, ACCURACY "Blue Book's 'New Hire Academy' will be a part of every new employee's first weeks of training, but just as important, it has become an important experience for all our long-tenured veterans as well," shares Doug Stoiber, vice president of Produce Transportation Operations at L&M Transportation Services, Inc. (LMTS). Blue Book Services, Inc.'s New Hire Academy (NHA) is designed to educate new employees about fundamental aspects of the produce industry, but can also be viewed by experienced produce professionals as a refresher course on a particular topic. "If the produce industry was ever simple, it's not simple today," said Jim Carr, President and Owner of Blue Book Services. "There's always more to learn, and for a new employee it can be espe- cially challenging. We want to help our member companies meet on-the-job chal- lenges and succeed." The NHA curriculum consists of five detailed courses and is available to mem- bers through Blue Book Online Services at www.producebluebook.com. "There is no charge to members," Carr explained "We are very grateful to our outside part- ners from the Fresh Link Group, LLC and Rynn & Janowsky, LLP who volunteered their time to contribute to this important initiative. These online tutorials are rigor- ous and of the highest quality." Sessions cover produce account management, the PACA Trust, trading and transportation, customs and rules, and Blue Book ratings. Once an employee has watched all the sessions and passed the associated testing, Blue Book provides a certificate of com- pletion to the individual's manager. "The depth, breadth, and thorough- ness of topics covered in NHA gives our team members invaluable tools in under- standing our customers and the industry's needs and expectations. We know of no other source where so much important information can be accessed so easily," said Stoiber, whose company is the offi- cial sponsor of NHA. Blue Book Services is also giving away a $100 Visa gift card to one lucky booth visitor. No matter if you're a new hire or industry veteran, stop by Blue Book's booth 619 for your chance to win. The E TranSlicer® Cutter joins the pro- duction-proven TranSlicer series in the Urschel line-up. Similar to the previous TranSlicers, the machine is engineered to continuously produce precision slices. The E TranSlicer uses the same 20-inch wheel and delivers the same types of cuts as the popular TranSlicer 2000 Cutter. The E TranSlicer offers the smallest foot- print of the TranSlicer series to fit easily into existing lines. "Engineering has always been the main focus of our company," stated Rick Urschel, Vice President of Operations at Urschel. "Designing and manufacturing goes hand-in-hand with ongoing research and development. After years of working directly with our customers, running tests, and manufactur- ing prototypes, we are proud to introduce the new E TranSlicer." The E TranSlicer features a newly designed cutting wheel retention assem- bly that significantly facilitates cutting wheel changeovers. The wheel retention assembly contains a built-in wheel rest and easy-to-use pivoting retaining brack- ets that slide into place. Two pins on either side of the wheel work in conjunction with the brackets. The machine also offers a self- draining frame with all sloped surfaces. Hinged/sliding access panels offer full access to all key areas of the machine. Sanitary design includes electrical cables slightly raised off of the machine frame to alleviate trapped food particulates during washdowns. The E TranSlicer is available with across-the- line start or with a variable frequency drive. Other options include a prep table to assist operators and a remote operator stop button. As with all Urschel machines, the E TranSlicer offers contin- NEW SLICER FROM URSCHEL FITS EASILY INTO EXISTING LINES VITAL LEARNING FOR PRODUCE PROFESSIONALS FROM BLUE BOOK SERVICES Most cup, tub and tray sealing machinery currently available generate an inordinate amount of excess film that needs to be handled, discarded and ulti- mately recycled at a significant cost in terms of money, labor and energy. The unique design of the S-30 and ORICS INDUSTRIES: SUSTAINABILITY IN PACKAGING EQUIPMENT CMTS Eco-Cut® systems by ORICS eliminate this film waste and have proven to be a perfect fit for leading processors in the food packaging industry. ORICS' Eco-Cut film feeder technology cuts the film in between each container, leaving no wasted film and potentially saving the facility $40,000 or more per year in mate- rial costs alone. Further savings include reduced labor costs and downtime by eliminating the need to handle and dis- card excess film. What's more, Eco-Cut also lessens a producer's carbon footprint and environmental impact by virtually eliminating discarded material. By reducing the material cost for the ongoing purchase of lidding material (film), an Eco-Cut system practically pays for itself, turning environmentally- conscious eco-design into verifiable sav- ings. The ORICS S-30 and CMTS Eco- Cut sealers will not only increase your productivity by eliminating the repetitive manual packing processes; they will improve your bottom line, saving you some green by being green.
