O C G S h o w D a i l y 3 1 Tu e s d a y, J u n e 4 , 2 0 1 3 Point Five Packaging sources its CPET crystalline polyester films and foam trays from an Israeli supplier who provides unusual shapes and sizes that give its cus- tomers the opportunity for a package that's distinctive enough to stand out from competitors. The tooling cost for new shapes and sizes is very affordable, so you don't have to be a retail giant to break into the market with a product that has its own unique look. The film is very printable, for labels that are bright and appealing. Under the film the product stays fresh longer with modified atmosphere pack- aging that protects it from the oxidizing effects of natural air. Point Five Packaging's CPET materi- al is dual-ovenable and bakeable, very handy for fresh meals or the grab-and-go case. It's great for take-and-bake applica- tions such as pizzas and cakes and for pro- cessing applications in which you're pack- aging directly into the container. Point Five also offers cup-seal and tray-sealing systems that are ideally suited for com- missary environments for all kinds of applications – from fresh fruits to fresh meats and everything in between. In addition, Point Five Packaging will be showing it Athena model, a small entry-level machine with unique shelf-life booster modified atmos- phere technology that makes it possible to take the oxygen out of the package without using a vacuum pump. By pump- ing in inert gas to displace the air from inside the package, the result is a sealed package containing product with shelf life that can be extended from 25 to 100 percent, depending on the application. The decrease in oxygen content from the 20 percent that's natural for the Earth's atmosphere to the 0.5 percent obtainable with the Point Five Packaging technol- ogy is the inspiration for the company's name. Formerly known as ARPAC, Point Five Packaging was spun off from a former parent com- pany last year. Although the name is new, the company had already been operating as a separate entity, so customers will see a seamless transition with the same great service, expertise, and support that they've always enjoyed. For more information, visit booth #5445 at the Dairy-Deli-Bake Show. Point Five Packaging is headquartered in Schiller Park, Ill. This grand prize winner was presented to Heinen's Supermarkets in Cleveland, Ohio, and then the chain showed the product to the Cleveland Clinic as part of a new health and wellness, initiated and jointly devel- oped between the two organizations. The Cleveland Clinic has now endorsed Currant Temptation bread and it has become an instant hit at Heinen's. Secondly, the scientists at Caravan Foods created a new California Raisin bread formula utilizing a purple wheat which produces an ele- gant finished product. The product called Purple Wheat Raisin Bread is one of the items featured by Norman Mayne and Scott Fox of one of the retail indus- try's iconic supermarket chain's leader―Dorothy Lane Markets in the Dayton , Ohio area. IPL INTRODUCES FILM SEALABLE SQUARE LINE The design and marketing teams at IPL developed the new Film Sealable Square Line that offers a reduced envi- ronmental footprint for film-seal appli- cation, thanks to thin wall design. Moreover, this new line of square con- tainers offers added branding value through a modern design and photo- quality IML graphics. Sustainable advantage The Film Seal Square Line was designed with very thin walls, reducing the amount of resin compared to exist- ing injection molded square or round containers. Its square shape optimizes space utilization by maximizing the number of containers on a shelf or a pal- let compared to round containers of sim- ilar size. The container, lid and in-mold label are made of 100 percent recyclable polypropylene and are reusable, which answers the needs of the increasingly eco-conscious consumers. Designed to stand out on the shelves The Film Seal Square Line was designed with both the consumer and retailer in mind. The differentiated modern design and the large IML decoration surface attract consumers' attention, increasing impulse purchases. The square design also allows for consistent facing on the shelves compared to round containers. Safety The Film Sealable Square Line is ideal for deli products such as specialty cheese, dips, hummus, salsa and salads. Furthermore, there is no skirt around the container flange, reducing the risk of contamination.
