B r o a d c a s t e r s S h o w D a i l y W e d n e s d a y, A p r i l 1 0 , 2 0 1 3 6 TV EVERYWHERE: WHY IS AN END-TO-END VIDEO QUALITY MANAGEMENT CRUCIAL? Over-the-Top (OTT) and TV Everywhere (TVE) have brought a whole new dynam- ic in viewing behavior where consumers have a far greater choice in what, when, how, and where they view content. Just as with traditional Pay-TV services, viewers expect the same experience on their connected devices as in the home. As studies show, subscribers will switch to another provider based on the mere fact that the requested content took more than two seconds to start to play-out. Assuring a high quality of experience is more important than ever before. OTT and TVE have created major challenges for video providers from implementing new business models to monetize TVE services to network archi- tectures addressing immense amount of video traffic created from the increasing number of connected devices and the many different types; tablets, smart phones, connected TVs, computers and games consoles. These challenges can be overcome with a true end-to-end video quality and service assurance solution that empha- sizes on monitoring the quality of the service in conjunction with the quality of the consumer's actual viewing experi- ence on each connected device, and not just the performance of the CDN deliver- ing the pictures and sound. A point solu- tion will not give a provider the proper visibility into where and why the issues are happening. Video quality and service assurance can be properly managed when cohesive visibility is provided through all aspects of the adaptive bitrate streaming (ABR) video network; from the encod- ing, within the publishing, through the content distribu- tion network (CDN), all the way to the end device. A true end-to-end solution that enables a provider to be proac- tive is solving issues and will help reduce the mean-time-to- resolve problems, maintaining a high quality experience for the subscriber. With IneoQuest's market leading video quality and service assurance solu- tion for OTT and TVE, providers can assure full coverage no matter the net- work architecture; through a third party CDN, in conjunction with their own CDN, or even hybrid ABR / linear TV. This is accomplished with end-to-end QoE and QoS management; analyzing the content at the transcoder and seg- menter, verifying the publishing to the CDN, passively monitoring all live ses- sions and the communications between the devices in the network, as well as, active monitoring to ensure the content is available in each geographical location for each connected device. One of the key component of the solution is the aggregation of all these monitoring points into a single pane of glass providing operators with a health status view of the entire network. IneoQuest continues to be the leading pioneer in the video quali- ty and service assurance market. In 2010, innovating the patented QoS metric for ABR video, VeriStream, and offering the only true end-to-end solution for Multiscreen/OTT. So, when planning to offer OTT and TVE services, your strategy should incorporate a proven uni- fied service assurance solution to address these challenges. Only then will opera- tors be able to put these service quality issues behind them and carve out a sig- nificant role in the emerging TV Everywhere universe. TSACO-3000, TSC-6000 BY DTV INNOVATIONS HELP BROADCASTERS STAY ON AIR The TSC-6000 is a multi-format trans- port stream format converter and the TSACO-3000 is a multi-format transport stream failover switch and format con- verter all in one. Both are compliant with ATSC and DVB standards. Both units have a web server user interface to configure and monitor status of the unit and accept ASI, 310M and TSoIP (SMPTE 2022) input formats. The units also have simultaneous ASI, 310M and TSoIP (SMPTE 2022) outputs, GPI/O to allow remote control and status tally, dual power supplies for reliability, are ATSC Mobile DTV ready and field upgradable. The TSC-6000 is a robust multi-for- mat transport stream format converter. It converts transport streams between ASI, 310M and TSoIP formats. Any one of the three formats is converted and output simultaneously into all three formats. The TSC-6000 is controlled via a web server interface where the user can con- figure input interface and monitor the sta- tus of the unit. TSC-6000 has an easy to use design while providing a tolerant and robust platform, which meets the contin- uous demands of the broadcast environ- ment. It is a true "set it and forget it" piece of hardware. The TSACO-3000 is a robust multi- format failsafe protection switch that automatically prevents broadcasters from unexpectedly going off air. In today's environment, broadcasters have redun- dant encoding systems feeding separate paths to their transmit facility for reliabil- ity. The TSACO-3000, placed at the out- put of the two encoding systems, enables a broadcast station to automatically switch between the primary and backup transport streams in the event of a failure as defined by the user. Signal health moni- toring is maintained on both the primary and backup input transport streams. Fourteen differ- ent user-definable parameters, configurable from the web server interface, allow a station to tune its unit for specif- ic parameters. Parameters include: HEX 47 sync detection (two levels), PAT, PSIP and an additional nine service element PID's to monitor payload loss. Additionally, if the unit has switched to the backup input, the user can configure it to switch back to the primary transport stream if the stream goes error free for a user definable amount of time. One of the most important facts about the TSACO-3000 is the signal con- tinuity (HEX 47 sync) remains seamless during the transition between primary and backup transport streams allowing the receiver to maintain lock during the switch. The TSACO-3000 offers broad- casters a truly reliable, intelligent redun- dancy solution based on a hardware plat- form complete with redundant power supplies and mechanical relay bypass. It is an excellent option for broadcasters who want to prevent transmission out- ages. Finally, the TSACO-3000 and TSC- 6000 are ATSC A/153 Mobile DTV ready. A configurable parameter allows the unit to lock to the incoming mobile transport stream, preventing the insertion or removal of null packets. DTV Innovations' TSC-6000 was verified at FOX and works extremely well in the Mobile DTV environment. For more information, visit DTV Innovations at booth SU11002 or call 847-919-3550. DTV Innovations is locat- ed at 1252 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine, Ill., 60067. CHECKERS LAUNCHES NEW PRODUCTS, WEBSITE Checkers is excited to announce the launch of three new cable protectors at the 2013 NAB Show and its new Checkers website! The new products include the Grip Guard ® 5-Channel Cable Protector with multiple patent- pending features, the Guard Dog ® ADA/DDA compliant 5-Channel and the Yellow Jacket ® ADA/DDA compli- ant 5-Channel. The new Grip Guard 5-Channel Cable Protector with multiple patent- pending features is the world's lightest weight 5-channel cable protector. At a weight of only 12.75 pounds, Grip Guard is up to 60 percent lighter than other leading polyurethane 5-channel cable protectors, and up to 75 percent lighter than other rubber 5-channel cable protectors on the market. These cable protectors feature Checkers' "Gripper ® Connectors," which are ergonomically designed to fit your hand for easy handling and transport. This connector also locks multiple cable protectors together quickly and tightly to provide a safe crossing for vehicle and pedestrian traffic while protecting valuable electrical cables and hose lines. This modular interlock- ing design protects cables up to a 1.25- inch outside diameter and is ideal for use in most broadcast, stage, studio, and entertainment applications. The new Guard Dog and Yellow Jacket 5-Channel ADA Cable Protectors have built-in ADA/DDA compliant accessibility ramps to pro- vide a safe cross- ing for pedestrian and vehicle traffic while protecting valuable electri- cal cables and hoses. Featuring Dog Bone connectors, these cable protectors easily intercon- nect directly to a 5-channel standard ramp Guard Dog or Yellow Jacket cable protector. This modular inter- locking design is available in light- weight 18-inch sections and it includes a recessed carrying handle on the underside of the protector. It's ideal for use in broadcast, stage, studio, and entertainment applications. Both mod- els protect cables and hoses up to a 1.325-inch outside diameter.
