NH: Maxxon Corporation is the leading provider of floor underlayments and floor sound deadening systems in North America. We also carry various specialty product lines, including moisture vapor barriers to help reduce moisture vapor emissions from concrete slabs. Maxxon products are used in new construction and renovation projects of multifamily and single family housing, as well as commercial, retail and industrial facilities. CM: What products are you showcasing AIBD (Cont'd. from p. 1) SM: The House Plan Marketing Alliance is a group of our nation's leading designers, architects and publishers involved in the sale and marketing of pre-drawn house plans. Collectively, they are the voice for their discipline within the American Institute of Building Design, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the enhancement, development and recognition of the residential design professions. CM: What's the new buzz word in home design? SM: According to one of our members in Florida, Keesee and Associates (www.GoKeesee.com), it's two words – home technology. As it becomes increasingly popular, designers need to move forward and prepare builders to offer home integration. It's a matter of time Proflex (Cont'd. from p. 1) products are designed to be installed as a part of a complete flooring system to last for years. Proflex offers a variety of products to protect natural finish surfaces from common problems associated with a flooring installation including: crack-isolation, reduction of sound transmission, moisture control and water proofing. All of our products have been engineered and tested to industry standards, and are endorsed by leading independent floor covering associations. Our original product line of our elastomeric peel-and-stick membranes conSage Construction (Cont'd. from p. 1) estimated 80 million people born between 1979 and 1999 (referred to as "millenials") will make up 36 percent of the workforce in 2014 and 46 percent by 2020. What does this mean for the construction industry? This new generation of digital natives – the first to grow up with computers in their homes – has incorporated personal handheld devices and the freedoms they provide into their personal lives. As they begin to enter the construction workforce, they are becoming instrumental in the way builders and remodelers view and use technology. They also expect the same level of mobile technology to be available in their jobs as they have in their personal lives – an important consideration for construction companies wanting to attract and at the 2014 NAHB Builders' Show? International NH: We are showcasing several of our product lines at this year's International Builder]s Show. First is our Acousti-Mat line of sound control mats, with focus on our new series of HP [High Performance] mats, which offer upgraded sound control without adding height to the original floor system design. We'll also be talking about our line of moisture vapor barriers: Maxxon DPM and Maxxon MVP. These products are critical for reducing moisture vapor emissions where you have moisture coming up through your concrete floor. With the resulting moisture mitigation, these barriers ultimately help to protect your fin- until basic home integration will be as essential as offering a toilet in a new home. There are bare minimums that home buyers will expect to see, despite price or square footage, and technology will soon be one of those expectations. Further automation may be optional, but some level of integration is bound to be a minimum expectation, in younger and more experienced home buyers alike. CM: What are the 'must-have' features homeowners are asking for these days? SM: I was talking with Architectural Designs, a member firm in Connecticut, who serves the entire country. They haven't been seeing a single 'must-have' feature but rather a bunch of 'nice-tohaves,' which include a 'wow' factor, such as a home theater or ball court (www.architecturaldesigns.com/houseplan-73323HS.asp), great outdoor spaces tinues to be our flagship product line. The Proflex elastomeric membranes provides flooring installations a triple protection of crack-isolation, sound reduction and a moisture vapor barrier. Our elastomeric membranes are easy to install, and allow you to install your finish surfaces immediately after installing Proflex with no waiting time. Proflex also features a specialty product for areas requiring positive waterproofing protection. Proflex Hydra-Seal, is a semi-liquid applied product that forms a barrier preventing moisture vapor transmission, and blocks the intrusion of water to protect surfaces retain talented workers. Mobile technology has allowed communication to be much more collaborative, as today's construction professionals use smartphones and tablets to access cloudbased services that help them improve onthe-job decision making and overall project performance. This will continue to be evident as millenials who enter the workforce push for an even higher level of information transparency and collaboration. Millenials are mobile. They want flexible schedules and are most comfortable when they can work anytime and anywhere. They tend to put in more hours overall and effortlessly blend their personal and work lives. Mobile devices are always within arms' reach, making it easier for them to handle project management, scheduling, punch lists, time tracking and other tasks in real time while out- ished floor goods from failures due to moisture vapor. We are also debuting our with Thermal-Chem partnership Corporation and will have a sample of our new underlayment/epoxy finished floor system. CM: What makes your company unique? NH: Maxxon Corporation invented Gyp-Crete and the gypsum underlayment industry. Over the years we've expanded our product lines to include multiple high strength gypsum underlayments, sound control mats, self-leveling underlayments and other specialty lines. We have the best technical and R&D team in the gypsum underlayment industry and are on the forefront of (www.architecturaldesigns.com/houseplan-64003BB.asp) and homes that are net-zero-ready (www.architecturaldesigns.com/house-plan-33012ZR.asp). CM: What are new homes going to look like in 2014? SM: Each one will be unique. That's what keeps our members busy – the demand for new and innovative designs. However, Portfolio Home Plans (www.portfoliohomeplans.com), a member in Alabama, reports that an old industrial era style and charm, ranging from Craftsman to Bungalow with a little Southern twist, is making a comeback in the southeast. Homeowners are looking to recreate that period when everyone hung out on the front porch swing on a warm summer day and socialized with neighbors passing by. You know, the 'good ole days.' from structural damage. Hydra-Seal can be applied to concrete and exteriorgrade wood surfaces, and will adhere to variety of irregular forms such as base flashing and walls. Ideal for use in showers, steam-rooms, bathrooms, pools, fountains and areas requiring positive waterproofing. Our latest inclusion to our family of products are the PRO-STICK line of mortars, thinsets, mastics, and specialty adhesives. PRO-STICK offers a variety of products designed for surface preparation, setting tile and stone surfaces, and adhesives for both engineered and solid wood surfaces. PRO- side of the office. Your millenial customers will also demand a mobile experience, so it's important not only to focus on improving internal processes and technologies, but also to deliver information to home owners when they want it, the way they want it. Providing mobile access so customers can see schedules, sign change order requests, select design options and view project updates and photos will become the norm in the future. How are construction companies responding to these changes? In a 2013 Construction IT survey conducted by Sage, 39 percent of construction contractors planned to increase their use of tablets, and 31 percent planned to increase their use of smartphones in 2013 alone. Given the continuing advances in smart devices and construction-related cloud apps, this growth is 57 trends in the building industry. CM: How can our readers find out more about your company? With each new IRC code update, brace wall and energy codes are becoming more and more complex. Sam Morgan of S.W. Morgan Fine Home Design (www.morganfinehomes.com) agreed. 'Let's face it, construction can be stressful.' He suggests collaborating with a builder early in the design process. 'Having someone on your team with nearly 30 years of construction experience will minimize that stress.'
