Wok Mei All-Natural Asian Standards Now Certified Gluten-Free Golden West Specialty Foods introduced Wok Mei, a new brand of three premium all-natural Chinese condiments back in 2005 to wide acclaim: Wok Mei All-Natural Oyster Flavored Sauce, Wok Mei AllNatural Plum Sauce and Wok Mei All-Natural Hoisin Sauce. Now, the entire Wok Mei line has one more characteristic to add to its already impressive list of specifications: Certified Gluten-Free! "Wok Mei," meaning "pretty wok" in Chinese, is a philosophy of Chinese cooking where one achieves a balance with respect to the five qualities of food: flavor, texture, color, temperature and aroma. An all-natural line based on classic Asian favorites, Wok Mei products adhere to a strict and unusual coda, ingredient wise—no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, no modified starches, MSG or modified yeast extracts, and no refined sugars. Now it can also say no gluten. "The hoisin sauce, made with a miso base, is dark and tangy. The oyster sauce combines a real briny flavor with a hint of sweetness. With a fruity richness, the plum sauce works well as a glaze for meat or fish or as a dip for spring rolls," said Florence Fabricant of the New York Times. So what does Wok Mei have? Flavor, and plenty of it. The All-Natural Oyster Sauce has a rich, oyster flavor and a smooth texture that is both clean and lower in sodium than other oyster sauces. The Hoisin Sauce has a rich texture, with the complex flavor of clove and all-spice in a background of perfect sweetness. The Plum Sauce is admirably thick and full bodied, with an abundance of fruity plum that just calls out for chicken or duck. "I am thrilled to bring these all-natural products to market," stated Lawrence Ames, President of Golden West Specialty Foods, creator of the Wok Mei brand. "We created Wok Mei to appeal to the growing numbers of ingredient-conscious consumers—it is designed specifically for natural food grocers GloryBee Expands Fair Trade Partnerships to Aunt Patty's Line GloryBee, a family-owned natural foods company, expanded its fair trade business in 2012 to include coconut oil in its extensive line of Aunt Patty's branded products. GloryBee Vice President Alan Turanski traveled to Indonesia and the Philippines to broaden the partnership with their coconut supplier in order to launch Aunt Patty's Organic Fair Trade Virgin Coconut Oil. This Fair Trade Certified Organic Virgin Coconut Oil comes from a small cooperative of coconut farmers in the surrounding villages and towns of Butuan City in Northern Philippines. These farmers grow their crops (coconuts and bananas) in an agroforestry setting. In agroforestry, the crops are grown amongst the natural tropical vegetation, and it is one of the most environmentally friendly agricultural production systems in existence. The farmers in this small community are paid a fair price for the coconuts they supply and a community development project is planned by the producer community. The specific project planned is the drilling of a well that will provide fresh, safe drinking water to all members of the community. In rural areas of the Philippines, access to safe drinking water can be a matter of Couturier North America Introducing New Flavors and Packaging in 2014 Couturier North America is very optimistic for 2014.
