C o n su m e r Ele c tro n ic s D a ily N e ws @ th e Ve n e tia n SenseData (Cont'd. from p. 1) Mexico who started his second company, Global Strategic Solutions, where we created an analytical platform to monitor the health of hardware systems. I was inspired because we could take a software we created to monitor any piece of hardware. CEDN: How do you define innovation? Why is it important to you? CH: Innovation to me means thinking outside the box, coming up with an idea that no one has accomplished. Innovation most of the time is overlooked, because in the end it's normally something simple. Innovation is important to me Jansy Packaging (Cont'd. from p. 1) which allows it to approach each design without limits. Once the concept stage is complete, it moves to engineering. This ensures that every Smart Diet Scale (Cont'd. from p. 1) food portion individually, providing a comprehensive nutritional profile for each. You can easily track what you eat with programs tailored to individual goals, such as weight loss, diabetes control or bodybuilding. CEDN: What is your company's mission? NB: Our mission is to help fight and control diabetes, obesity and childhood obesity worldwide. We want to help consumers save on medical costs and encourage them to lead healthier lives. CEDN: What was your inspiration for Rogers High Fidelity (Cont'd. from p. 1) CEDN: What makes Rogers High Fidelity stand out from the competition? RG: We have hand-made, all-U.S. made, all New York-made products with an exceptional aerospace heritage. The aerospace market is unmatched for electronic design because it is demanding for temperature extremes, reliability and shock. You learn how to design products that survive in those environments. I've taken that design skill and applied it to our products. This kind of level of construction and design is not available in the marketplace. Additionally, all of our products carry a lifetime warranty. We are alone in that promise. There is no compromise in components or construction, which is why we believe in NCIT (Cont'd. from p. 1) need it. All fitness businesses have existing membership management systems. Currently, the important health data such as weight is not recorded in the member's account. Accuro wireless scale solutions can bridge the gap by being seamlessly integrated into the existing membership system to log and because it has created an opportunity for me, without having a college degree. It has given me the chance to create a product that could not only help consumers but also help our environment. Innovation helped me create my green technology autopro. CEDN: As a member of 1776, why do you think these types of startup communities are important? CH: Communities like 1776 are important because they can connect you to resources you would never have known about as a regular startup. For example, I would never have known about the CEA sustainability event if it wasn't for 1776. They can also give you help regarding design works precisely the way it's supposed to. During production, the design is manufactured to clearly defined specifications and quality standards. Combined with Jansy Packaging's creating Smart Diet Scale? NB: I struggled with my weight for years, losing 10 to 30 pounds each time, but just gaining it right back. I tried low carb, low fat, fad diets – you name it, I did them all. Finally, I learned portion control, and I exercised a few days a week. I counted my calories every day. I had to weigh my food and look up every meal I ate. In 2011, I lost 100 pounds in 12 months, and have kept it off since. It was a lot of work and time, and it's easy to give up because it's so time-consuming. I knew there had to be an easier, faster way of tracking calories. Calorie intake and calories burned is the key to our products and our warranty. I'm not trying to design the cheapest amplifier. I'm trying to design the best. CEDN: Who is your target audience? RG: The target audience today is the audiophile and music enthusiast. These are people who are very demanding for reproduction quality and performance. They are somewhat price insensitive once they take a liking to the product. The challenge is that they are aging. CEDN: What product are you showcasing at this year's Consumer Electronics Show? W e d n e sd a y, Ja n u a ry 8 , 2 0 1 4 13 what needs to be done, or talk to people who made it or even failed. Every company that is going to create a startup should be part of a community like this, or an accelerator. CEDN: How can the U.S. government encourage innovators and startups? CH: I enjoy that every day brings something new, and makes our vision at SenseData clearer. It might be fixing a piece of code or talking business. The hardest part is, I'm not like most startup companies. I have a family, I'm married to my wife Christina, with three wonderful kids – Gia, Tony and Giuliana – but that also makes running For more information, visit booth 74212, or go online at www.itsautopro.com. CEDN: What do you enjoy most about running a startup? What's the most challenging part? quality control processes, this process allows the company to consistently deliver accurate, high-quality work to its clients. Start a conversation about what Practical Creativity™ can do for weight loss and maintaining a healthy body. So I put on my thinking cap and invented the Smart Diet Scale, capable of tracking the nutritional value of your entire meal. It's easy, fun to use and saves a tremendous amount of time. CEDN: How have consumers responded to Smart Diet Scale? NB: A person I met at a 2012 New Year's Eve party asked me what I do for a living. I told him about the Smart Diet Scale I invented. It turned out that he is a diabetic. He explained to me all the work and time he needs to spend on meal planning, tracking, weighing food and looking up the sugar and carbohydrates in everyThe response has been extraordinary. People are in love with the quality of the sound. They hear things they haven't heard before from their vinyl collection. We had a meeting with a legendary turntable designer and manufacturer. We spent a day with him, and at the end of that day he told us that our new preamplifier produced the best sound that he has ever heard. CEDN: How do you keep driving innovation while preserving ties to oldschool, tube technology? RG: We are really excited about this. The new product is our PA-1A Phono Preamplifier. We've had it out for preliminary listening tests and reviews. RG: We ask our customers what they want. It makes no sense to design products that are already in the marketplace. If we can't come up with a unique design or solution, we don't add value. So our focus is on what adds value for the customer. That focus track weight and vital sign history, anywhere, anytime. CH: They could help by giving incentives for startups, and more than just tax benefits, because then they don't want to grow, they just want to get acquired. If they could limit the risk for startups, then maybe more people would want to have their own. I think if they held contests instead of SBIRs and gave winning teams $100K, it would fulfill the life cycle faster with technologies. your brand. Visit booth 71136 in the Venetian Ballroom. A few minutes past midnight in the new year of 2013, he introduced me to his wife and said, "This is Nick, the man that is going to change my life." Also, as I was flying back from the 2013 CES show, the person sitting next to me asked what I was doing at the CES. I told her about the Smart Diet Scale, and she said, "What a great product, Nick. CEDN: What hot trends do you see ahead in the marketplace? RG: There are two. The first, which ties to our new PA-1A Phono Preamplifier, is the resurgence of vinyl. An audience broader than just the audiophile community is recognizing the virtues of listening to music on vinyl. So, our target market is getting larger. Secondly, there is an increasing use of high-performance headphones. We see this trend especially with the younger, Gen Y listeners. Visit Rogers High Fidelity at the Venetian Hotel booth 29-126.
