Entrepreneur Carlos Hernandez brings auto repair into the next generation with autopro™, a smart app and hardware device that fits right in your pocket. Simply plug it into your car and get an instant, real-time maintenance report. Consumers and auto aficionados alike will rejoice knowing they can confidently detect potential problems without spending time and money on pricey and unnecessary diagnostic fees. autopro is an engineering marvel that sets the bar for transparency and efficiency. It's an easy-to-use gadget that's generating buzz among consumers, auto dealerships and private car collectors who want to know potential issues, right now. The unique dashboard design allows data to flow directly from your car to the autopro device, which is synced with your iPhone, Android or Windows smartphone. It all began when Carlos Hernandez saw a need for an easy and practical NEW ULTRA COMPACT HIGH-DEFINITION ACTION CAMERA WIDENS 2014 LINEUP The Whistler Group, Inc., a leading industry supplier of laser/radar detectors, inspection cameras, power inverters and other consumer electronics, announced a new addition to their 2014 product line with the rush™ Action Camera. Rush is the first in a series of consumer compact video camera recorders scheduled for a 2014 release by Whistler. The rush camera is an ultra compact, high-definition sport/action camera with extensive mounting capabilities that, when coupled with the included durable, waterproof protection case (up to 100 feet), allows the user to capture stunning video footage in extreme environments that standard video cameras cannot handle. The camera features 30 frames per second, 1080p professional quality high-definition video recording and 8 megapixel photos. Data can be stored via dual card slots for removable micro-SD media that make playback, capturing and editing easy. Playback can also be achieved on the 1.5-inch onboard monitor, or by connecting the camera's HDMI output to a high-definition television or monitor. Additionally, by using the includ- THE HISTORY OF SURGE PROTECTORS By Russell Barton, President, BITS Limited While surge protectors have been around since the computer revolution that started in the late 1980s, for many years the technology remained almost unchanged. They started out as a humble power strip with nothing more then a power switch, fuse and a single MOV. MOV stands for Metal Oxide Varistor, and when the voltage exceeds the line voltage by a certain amount, they conduct the extra voltage that is present to stop it from reaching the devices plugged in until the fuse blows, therefore protecting the equipment. Due to a wide variety of results and dangers, in 1986 UL started testing surge protectors with the first standard. This standard has been revised a few times until 2009, when the 3rd edition became the latest standard. During the first decade they remained unchanged, and with the second decade they increased the number of MOVs for better and more protection. In 1994, a company called Brickwall created a new technology that did not use MOVs, and like a brick wall, nothing got through. However, their technology also had its drawbacks. Due to its size, weight and cost the technology never became mainstream. The next major change occurred in 2002, when a small family-owned company, BITS Limited, released the first Advanced Surge Protector, called the BLUKIT: HANDS-FREE CALLING AND AUDIO STREAMING The new Bluetooth option (Blukit) can now be added to any of Custom Autosound Manufacturing's (CAM) CD control radios. Stay safe and obey local hands-free laws with built-in Bluetooth (HFP). You can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the USA-630, USA-66 or Secretaudio method of self-diagnosing his automobile. He was inspired to build a web application for monitoring potential vehicle problems after spending exorbitant amounts of money in car repairs over the years. Drawing from his experience building analytical platforms to monitor the health of hardware system and working on Boeing planes like the P-8 aircraft in Seattle, Carlos would later apply the same concept to automobiles. His idea to one day build the first consumer product that empowers the car owner would be fully realized in the summer of 2013. Now for less than a car wash, users can save hundreds, even thousands of ed windshield mounting bracket and mobile charging cradle, the rush camera can double as an automotive DVR to capture driving footage that would be useful in the event of an accident, for monitoring teenage driving or documenting scenic road trips. Other highlights include white light LED lighting, time-lapse recording and a G-Sensor video protection feature. "Our goal with this product introduction is to offer a versatile camera that has everything you need included at time of purchase," said Leslie Folsom, EVP, Marketing and Operations, Whistler Group, Inc. "The features and included accessories make this camera a terrific consumer value and a great alternative to more expensive cameras on the market." The rush camera is Whistler's first release from a family of video cameras being added to the Whistler 2014 product lineup. It was the first energy-saving surge protector on the market, and it was also very cost effective. It caught the attention of many morning TV shows, reviews and even the Oprah show in 2006. Once a surge protector got such media attention, other surge protector companies realized that things had changed and they must follow suit. All of the major players like APC, Belkin, Tripp Lite, Trickle Star and Fellows came out with their own energy-saving surge protectors. Most of them were all very similar—except Belkin, which made their Conserve model controlled by a switch that you mount on the wall. Then, companies like Wiremold started adding motions sensors to control the outlets. In 2010, an Australian company called Embertec changed the game even further by creating the first surge protector with digital electronics and the ability to save active energy waste. Active energy waste is when the consumer leaves the device on by accident. The 2013 CES was filled with more surge protector innovations than all other years combined. BITS Limited showcased their True Surge, which stops surges like a brick wall without the added cost. P3 International showcased their surge protector that measures the power and even tells you the cost over time. Wireless surge protectors, ethernet surge protectors and more than a dozen other innovations were also available from more surge protector companies than ever. Surge protection is now integrated to work seamlessly with the device that they once protected. radios. When a registered Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.
