EdTech Show Daily 1 1 Tuesday, June 25, 2019 Matias Releases Successor to Discontinued Keyboard Traditionally Used by Educators The Matias Wired Aluminum Keyboard for Mac has a built-in USB 2.0 hub and precision volume dial. "When the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad was released in 2017, the original wired model was discontin- ued. Our Matias Wired Aluminum Keyboard is more than suitable. It cap- tures the essence of the original – and even improves on it, with the addition of a precision volume dial," said Edgar Matias, Chief Executive Officer of Matias. "The new volume dial is perfect for users with external speakers, giving you four times finer control over the volume. That's 64 volume levels, compared to the 16 levels you get from the volume keys," said Matias. The keyboard is available in a wide range of international layouts (US, EU, Asian) and can be ordered now. The Matias Wired Aluminum Keyboard is available for $59 (US) from Matias and authorized resellers (www.matias.ca/ aluminum/mac). Matias makes other keyboards as well, and has been manufacturing key- boards for over 15 years. The Matias Backlit Wireless Aluminum Keyboard, which comes in silver or space gray, is a high-end slim aluminum keyboard with number pad. It has the ability to pair to four different devices and easily switch between them. It features backlighting, with 10 levels of brightness control. The keyboard has two rechargeable batteries: one for the keyboard operation itself that lasts up to a year before needing to be recharged, and a separate one for the backlighting that lasts up to two weeks before needing to be recharged. This ensures that you can keep typing even if your backlight battery gets drained. Matias is also known for its high performance mechan- ical keyboards, made with its own mechanical switches. Mechanical key- boards made by Matias include the clas- sic Tactile Pro Keyboard for Mac, the Quiet Pro Keyboard (which gives you mechanical typing without the noise nor- mally associated with mechanical key- boards) and the separated Ergo Pro Keyboard, for the ultimate in ergonomic typing and comfort. Vizitech USA Revolutionizing Learning through AR & VR Technology In early 2007, the Deputy Commanding General, First U.S. Army – covering U.S., Guam and Puerto Rico – C. Stewart Rodeheaver was tasked with a single essential endeavor – a better way to train hundreds of the young soldiers. To address the need, his team developed 3D, virtual, interactive and augmented reality training programs for the army, simplify- ing complex concepts for better learning outcomes. After years of experience in working on military projects, General Rodeheaver established Vizitech USA to engage, excite and "turn on" the creative capabilities of individuals through inter- active, virtual and augmented reality pro- grams. Taking a modern-day approach to learning, the company builds virtual learning and training experiences for K- 20 educational programs, commercial businesses, healthcare and governmental programs. By creating intricate processes and recreating them virtually for an inter- active, safe learning environment, Vizitech solves the biggest conundrum of the social education tools outpacing the traditional ones. "Today, there exists a disparity between the understanding lev- els of different students. While some stu- dents are quick learners, others are unable to read at the same pace," explains Rodeheaver. "The processes and teaching modal- ities provided through our 3D and virtual technologies have been tested in a myriad of areas and professions and have improved learning capabilities, and the students' standard test scores by as much as 33 percent," said Rodeheaver. Creating a virtual reality desktop with 3D glasses and a stylus that enables users to interact with a virtual object or environ- ment, the firm's zSpace is an engaging and exciting technical solution used in several career development and health care programs. "This tool provides a deeper and more complete view of com- plex ideas and concepts for subjects such as biology or history and offers an inter- active platform to experience advertise- ments or articles in magazines," points out Rodeheaver. By developing creative solutions for everyday complexities, Vizitech's key to success is to merge solid busi- ness tactics with a creative team. "While most firms focus on just aug- mented reality images, we at Vizitech build hardware, software, custom con- tent and live filming to create compre- hensive and effective content," says Rodeheaver. The company's 3DAV Rover – a portable 3D theater system – projects videos, images and interactive lessons into the classroom, offering top- notch, customized new content for an engaging experience. As textbooks fade away and the need to create an exciting learning experience becomes crucial, Rover not only helps teachers immerse their students into a 3D learning environment but also guarantees a stable, simplified and a highly interac- tive learning experience. As a case in point, in a university in Kentucky, Vizitech replaced a high percent- age of their cadaver lab with vir- tual people through zSpaces pro- vided by Vizitech USA. Vizitech's virtual reality solution helped the optometry school reduce the number of cadavers, curb the amount of refrigeration, storage and chemicals, thereby saving a significant amount each year. "This is a combination of education and industrial methodology," Rodeheaver explains. Strongly believing that "content is king," General Rodeheaver is on a mission to drive Vizitech to be a leader in the content development arena. Furthermore, the firm will continue to create novel products to simplify lives through virtual reality. "We have a plan, focus and an imagina- tion that will help us stay ahead of the competition. We just have to steer the business to be able to support this revolutionary development in educa- tion," he concludes. For more information, go to www.vizitechusa.com.
