Aftermarket Daily News 7 3 Wednesday, October 31, 2018 SEMA was such a great aftermarket entrepreneurial event. We were broaden- ing our line of car accessories at the time, so I realized it was important for us to be there. ADN: When did you first exhibit at SEMA? RA: In 1995. It was the 15 year anniver- sary of our Autosound Encyclopedia, and we introduced our visor CD holder and the EFX line of amplifier wiring kits and accessories. SEMA is attended by installers, especially independents, and we make car stereo installation products so it was, and is, a great fit for us. I always look forward to seeing the inno- vation and the rich American history of entrepreneurship at work at SEMA. Not to mention the cool cars. ADN: Customizing vehicles is another very American interest. Why do you think that is? RA: I've observed that there are two kinds of people, those who love and revere their vehicle and those who see them as just a way to get from point A to point B. If you are the former, you will tailor your vehicle to match your person- ality. You especially see this customiza- tion in classic cars, but there are many ways to personalize a new vehicle too and make it your own. Car personaliza- tion will never die! ADN: What will you introduce at SEMA this year to help people personalize their Scosche (Cont'd. from p. 1) vehicles? RA: We're expanding our line of power- sports mounts that fit on ATVs, SxS, UTVs, motorcycles, etc. Wireless charg- ing is very popular now, so we've expanded our line of Qi wireless fast chargers. Our direct-fit Qi-wireless fast chargers come in a universal mount as well as a growing range of vehicle-spe- cific versions, including: Ford 150, Chevrolet Tahoe, Dodge Ram, Toyota Camry and more. ADN: What's your prediction for the next 5-10 years in the auto industry? RA: Clearly the buzz is autonomous vehicles. Although progress has been made, I think it will be a more incremen- tal move to full autonomy. Safety fea- tures we see now in higher-end cars, like automatic braking to avoid a collision, will start to proliferate in lower-end vehi- cles. I think in five years we'll see autonomous delivery trucks, but it will take longer for passenger cars. ADN: How about in-car electronics? RA: It's hard for installed electronics to compete with smartphones. Most new technologies will be smartphone and app based. With the advent of bigger iPhones, entertainment has become portable. My grandchildren use their iPhones for everything. It's good news for Scosche though as we expand our line of mounts. Visit Roger and Scosche at SEMA booth #11717. This comprehensive yet easy-to-use technology helps convenience stores and fuel retailers detect fraudulent activity, deter potential risk and proactively mitigate liability, so that managers and employees can concentrate on running other aspects of their business. The cameras are ideally suited for convenience store use by providing high- resolution pictures while maintaining a universal view of the internal and exter- nal environment of the store. With its i3 International (Cont'd. from p. 1) sweet-hearting detection technology, SMART-ER and PACDM, owners can find unusual patterns and anomalies in transactional data which senses fraudu- lent behavior. These powerful tools can sort and search through POS transaction and video data and identify high risk behavior and activity. Receiving back- door alerts at night or during downtime has never been easier; business owners can also easily view this momentary video evidence on their personal desktop or mobile device. Thus, c-store retailers can keep their businesses protected, even when they are away. There's no telling what c-stores and fuel retailers can accomplish daily with all these tools in place. attract the younger generations. WN: Because the interests of our cus- tomers and prospects are so varied, we make it a point to have our booth staffed so that we can answer virtually any ques- tion that might be posed. We have sales people to discuss routine matters, we have top-level sales/management folks to answer more involved questions and we also have our Chief Chemist present to answer any questions relating to product composition, effectiveness or regulatory compliance. ADN: What Penray products are of spe- cial interest at this year's show? WN: Interest in all of our products is unusually high this year. Just in the last few months we've introduced our inno- vative Connector Seal, a spray that encapsulates electrical connections like trailer wiring harnesses. We have also had a great deal of interest in our Tough Max Degreasing Wipes, which promise to sell very well to repair shop personnel as well as to DIYers. ADN: Are you prepared to meet with international customers at the show? WN: Yes indeed. In addition to all of the staffers and executives mentioned above, also present in our booth will be our Manager of International Sales, who is multi-lingual and prepared to discuss product features, packaging, branding and regulatory compliance in different parts of the world, and any other sub- jects of interest to our international friends. ADN: As we enter the Fall selling sea- son, are there products that will be selling well in the coming months? WN: Absolutely. Our sales of spray de- icer and fuel treatments always spike at this time of year, especially as refineries switch to winter blends of gasoline. The Penray (Cont'd. from p. 1) increasing presence of ethanol in gaso- line generates increased demand for products like our Ethanol Stabilizer. It's also important that those who drive diesel-powered cars and light trucks be aware of gelling and hard-starting that can be exacerbated by cold, damp winter weather. Incidentally, at this time of year we also see greatly increased demand for our heavy-duty line of diesel fuel addi- tives and related products for the heavy- duty market. ADN: Penray has recently become part of the PLZ Aerosciences family of com- panies. How does that affect your busi- ness model? WN: Our new organization is already showing benefits to us and to our cus- tomers. We now have access to all of the engineering and marketing resources of PLZ, and this partnership affords us a broader portfolio of prod- ucts to offer our customers. In fact, here at the show we are sharing a booth with our PLZ partner Sprayway. Products that they have marketed to industrial, printing, furniture and maintenance industries, as well as their experience in the automotive aftermarket make them an ideal business partner for us, so we can provide even more resources to our customers. Penray, Inc. is part of the PLZ Aeroscience Corporation family of companies. The PLZ family of compa- nies formulate, blend, fill and package more than 2,500 brand and private label products.
