Aftermarket Daily News 7 3 Friday, November 2, 2018 OilZall, Lubrex Super Lubricant and SolvAll Tune Up Oil were often mixed in hotel bathtubs, hand bottled and labeled with Waldo's picture as a seal of approval. These products quickly gained localized acceptance and set the pace for Berryman's quality reputation. B-12 Chemtool was introduced in 1958 as a multi-purpose surface cleaning solvent, and is still the best selling fuel additive on the market. Using a propri- etary blend of High Energy Solvent Technology, (H.E.S.T.), Berryman cemented itself as a major player in the performance chemical market. By the 1960s, Waldo had brought Berryman Products from a small mobile operation selling a tire sealer to a suc- cessful multi-product business with coast to coast distribution. As Waldo was get- ting older, he wanted desperately for his son, Colonel Waldo "Bud" Berryman Jr. to take control of his company. However, Bud was a lifelong military man and had no interest in running the business, but he did know just the man who would. During his time in the Army, Bud met and became friends with a Buick dealer just outside of Ft. Rucker near Birmingham, Alabama. Robert Harlan Blankenship was an entrepreneur with a salesman's spirit. Having owned and operated a number of marinas, car dealer- ships and other ventures, R.H. had all the Berryman (Cont'd. from p. 1) connections to keep Berryman going. R.H. Blankenship immediately took a trip to San Diego to meet with Waldo and express his interest in buying the company. Waldo saw the same spark in Blankenship that he saw in himself, and sold the company to R.H. No sooner did Blankenship get home to celebrate than set plans to get the Berryman brand into people's hands. With six children, retired parents and a new factory in Arlington, Texas, R.H Blankenship continued the family tradition that exists today. Brothers Truman, Maurice and Edward took the company to new heights in the '90s and 2000s, putting Berryman in the pits at NASCAR, NHRA, SBDA Racing and countless other racing platforms. Berryman had always had the good reputation, but now its branded cars were winning races on the national stage. Berryman has now returned to track sponsoring the Trans Am Racing Series behind the talented drivers at Stevens Miller Racing. Now in our 100th year and fourth generation family member, Berryman continues to offer the highest quality per- formance chemicals available today. We have always maintained our focus on our customers. Berryman is still 100 percent family owned and operated, all American made, and we have shipped our products around the world. SC: There is a direct correlation between accurate measurement data and proper repair execution. On average, 35 percent of vehicles leave a shop with hidden damages. If hidden damages become operational and/or there are driver safety liabilities, the shop is subject to legal exposure and brand tarnishing because customers lose faith in the quality and integrity of repairs. Without precision measuring tools, damage assessments are highly subjective and are often made based on opinions or guess work. If the proof of damage is not verifiable using data, estimators and tech- nicians cannot make well-informed deci- sions. Without data-driven documenta- tion, there is little proof of damage to be shared with insurance adjustors – which is a major obstacle to ensuring a body shop is reimbursed by the insurance companies. ADN: Compared to alternative tools, how does the Matrix Wand address these measurement data concerns? SC: Other measuring systems available to the industry have many components to set up and tear down with each vehicle that is measured. Because of this, it can take up to an hour to complete the measuring and blueprinting processes. Further, other measuring systems are often limited to two-dimensional data collection. The Matrix Wand can complete the measuring processes in less than 15 min- utes, with minimal tear down. The soft- ware can identify sag, mash and side sway in all quadrants of the vehicle and Matrix Wand (Cont'd. from p. 1) from an infinite amount of data points by measuring in both 2D and 3D planes. The Matrix Wand can also be used to identify issues in suspension; alignment; sensor placement; proper door hanging; salvage, aftermarket and OE parts; and more. With faster measuring speeds comes shorter lead times. Shorter lead times cre- ate more time available, which improves throughput rate. With more throughput comes greater profitability. Other measuring systems require significant time allocation for set up and tear down; they are often only used dur- ing the diagnosis stage of collision repair. Because the Matrix Wand is so fast and easy to use, it is more versatile and can be used in the diagnosis, repair and verifica- tion processes. ADN: What are added benefits of the Matrix Wand? SC: While the OE standard for measure- ment data accuracy is generally plus or minus 3mm, the Matrix Wand detects all damages within plus or minus 1mm data accuracy. Though the Matrix Wand is a piece of equipment, its most valuable asset is its regularly updated collision data soft- ware. With each measuring repetition, Wand operators can compare vehicle data points to those of the latest Mitchell Data. Alternatively, if one side of the vehicle is undamaged, its measurement data can be recorded and a mirror image can be generated to create accurate repair data for the opposite, damaged side. Imagine being able to smack your steering wheel to hear real drum sounds on your car speakers on top of the music you're lis- tening to. Smack's aftermarket "Deluxe" model makes it possible. Just like SafeConnect, another Smack Innovations product, the Deluxe model allows drivers to safely use fea- tures and apps of their smartphone. In addition, however, the Deluxe model also helps drivers combat highway hypnosis (a state of zoning out experienced by drivers on long trips) and stay alert through tactile and auditory stimulation. The Deluxe model has eight additional sensors to keep a driver alert. By smack- ing these eight sensors, drivers can add eight different drum sounds to the music coming out of their car speakers. As a safety feature, one handed drumming of four different drum sounds is possible while driving, but at a standstill, like a traffic jam, drivers can add all eight. Since there is no view screen and all con- trols are on the steering wheel, a driver can always keep eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and phone in his pocket. Both SafeConnect and the Deluxe model connect wirelessly to your phone and can clamp onto any steering wheel in seconds. The eight extra sensors of the Deluxe model are contained within classy, black material which velcro to the circumference of your steering wheel like a steering wheel cover. A driver can push buttons to dictate and send text mes- sages and emails, make phone calls, get directions to the cheapest nearby gas sta- tion or best nearby restaurant according to Yelp, dictate the music he wants to hear on his car speakers and much more. The aim of Smack Innovations is to make every app on the user's phone compati- ble. For more information, go to www.smack innovations.com.
