Convenience Retailer Show Daily 4 9 Wednesday, October 10, 2018 bacon truffles, chocolate bacon bites and chocolate dipped jerky. These products are under our signature brand OINKS, the sweet and salty meat treat. Genesee Candy Land also offers jumbo, decadent cookies in five flavors, fudge bites and a line of chocolate novel- ties called 'animal poop,' which includes Deer Droppings, Dino Dung, Elk Scat and more. CRSD: What is your goal for the show? LA: We've been self-distributing and working with local/regional distribu- tors, but now want to introduce our products to business owners and larger distributors. This is our first time exhibiting. CRSD: What brings Genesee Candy Land its greatest pride? LA: Although we are manufacturers and wholesalers of unique sweet treats, we think like retailers because we are retailers. I currently own one conven- ience store as well as a retail chocolate shop, so we are very aware of what's important in store owners' buying deci- sions. Things such as strong profit mar- gins with reasonable SRP for shoppers, good shelf life, displays and POS mate- rials, small minimums, and great pack- Genesee Candy Land (Cont'd. from p. 1) aging that will catch the shoppers' attention. CRSD: Which products are you showing or launching at NACS? LA: We are launching two new products in our OINKS line: chocolate bacon truffles and chocolate-dipped jerky. We will have our other products – decadent jumbo cookies, fudge bites, and our ani- mal poop line of chocolates also at the booth. Of course, there will be sam- pling! CRSD: How do your products or servic- es help your customers compete in their marketplace? LA: Our products are very unique! There are not many completely new products being introduced these days, so when consumers discover sweet meat treats – such as chocolate bacon strips, chocolate bacon bites and chocolate bacon truffles – the OINKS brand will generate new sales and another reason for consumers to return to that store. Also, we are the only USDA-certified manufacturing facility in the U.S. to produce chocolate bacon products. Finally, we have strong profit margins, free displays, low minimums, and good shelf life for our products. "This is a great time for Greek and Mediterranean foods and flavors in the U.S.," declares Catherine Porter, Director of Foodservice Marketing for Grecian Delight Foods. "We are seeing a wave of new Mediterranean concept restaurants, plus the penetration of these flavors across mainstream menus." Sauces are a great way to introduce Greek and Mediterranean flavors to a menu. "For convenience stores, we see opportunities to bring Mediterranean flair to sandwich programs or even pizza options with sauces like a Four Pepper Cilantro Skhug sauce, tzatziki or even a Feisty Feta ® spread which has been used as a sauce for Mexican pizzas," states Porter. Many restaurants are using hum- mus in sandwiches and wraps as a protein for vegetarian offerings, an alternative to mayonnaise or as a double protein hit to deli sandwiches. Pitas and flatbreads can also bring Greek and Mediterranean flair to menu offerings. Porter notes that "gourmet breads have long been an easy and accepted way to upscale sandwich offer- ings or provide a new spin." Mediterranean bread carriers have a strong presence in many leading quick serve restaurants across breakfast and lunch items. Grecian Delight (Cont'd. from p. 1) For grab-and-go foodservice needs, Grecian Delight is highlighting its individually wrapped Opaa! ® Gyro sandwiches. Opaa! Gyro sandwiches are the authentic, international street food that consumers crave. "It has been a long time since a really new ethnic food has entered convenience stores. Greek and Mediterranean foods are immediately recognizable and embraced by the core Millennial and Gen Z consumers, making them a nat- ural fit," comments Porter. Opaa! Gyro sandwiches are a substantial 7.35- ounce portion size for a truly satisfying meal. Available in two protein options, they come complete with a soft pita and sauce packet in the package. Both are ready from the microwave in under two minutes and feature an extended 12 day refrigerated shelf life from thaw. Grecian Delight, A Pure Mediterranean Foods Company, brings the very best of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, with products including gyros and specialty meats, pitas and flatbreads, tzatziki, hummus and spreads, falafel and additional Mediterranean specialties. This closes off the pressurised filling hose after the break-off, minimising the safety risk to the operator. The equipment prevents any uncontrolled gas leak, allowing the fill- ing hose to be vented in a controlled and deliberate manner in a secure environ- ment. The breakaway couplings are also supplied with integrated filters for added safety benefits. These filters ensure that the natural gas is clean, protecting the components from soiling. The filter inserts are easy to change to minimise dispenser downtime. After break-off, WEH breakaway couplings can be reused after a leak test without any need for factory reservising. The WEH breakaway couplings are also available for hydrogen filling stations. WEH was early to recognize the future of alternative energy sources, and WEH (Cont'd. from p. 4) has since become a global market leader in alternative refueling components. As early as 1986, WEH began extending its product range to include alternative refueling components for nat- ural gas and hydrogen and founded its WEH GmbH Gas Technology affiliate.
