Food Magic Daily Tuesday, July 17, 2018 4 Kerry Showcasing GanedenBC 30 at IFT By Michael Bush, Executive Director at Kerry for GanedenBC 30® and Wellmune ®. In the global digestive health market, probiotics are leading innovation oppor- tunities across many food and beverage product categories. Why is this? Shifting attitudes and purchase behaviors are leading consumers to seek out everyday products targeted with health benefits that meet their wellness goals. Driving growth are foods and beverages that offer digestive health benefits. For example, a recent report shows global food and beverage launches with diges- tive health-related claims between 2012 and 2016 have a positive 25 percet CAGR (Innova Market Insights' On- Trend presentation, 2017); while the global probiotics market is projected to grow to $64 billion at a CAGR of 7 per- cent from 2017 to 2022, with functional foods and beverages being the largest segment of this market. Though there is global opportunity for probiotic and gut health products, the challenge is creating everyday products that consumers want to buy, while differ- entiating it to generate sales and con- sumer loyalty. How can product manu- facturers do this? When creating a food or beverage that is fortified with a probi- otic, it is extreme- ly important to know your target consumer. This is true across all age groups and regions the prod- uct will be sold. Anything from formulation considerations, to marketing, to regulatory considerations may all need to be adjusted based on which demo- graphic you are aiming to appeal to. Consumers are also looking for pro- biotic and digestive benefits in their everyday foods that go beyond the typi- cal chilled dairy products like yogurts. Nutralliance, Inc.
